Cold Shoulder → Spencer Reid

Prompt: The reader returns to the team. Spencer gives the reader the cold shoulder until the reader confronts him.

You walk into the headquarters of the BAU, where you've been working for almost two years now. You had finally gotten your release to join the team again, you were both nervous and excited.

You were only nervous because you had been laid off for six months, due to injuries caused by an unsub- who was determined to put you six feet underground. You didn't know how the team would feel about seeing their 'dead' friend again.

You head towards the briefing room stopping just outside the closed door, you look at it for a minute. You gently turn the door handle and step inside all heads turn towards the door at that exact moment. You could see everyone's jaw drop, except for Hotch and Morgan who knew what had really happened. And who knew you would return.

"Y/l/n, welcome back." Garcia looks at Hotch "Shut up!" She stands up walking over to you quickly, tears filled her eyes.

She wrapped you in a tight hug and you only returned the hug "Welcome back kid." Rossi walks over giving you a hug as well, soon JJ and Prentiss followed.

Morgan smiled towards you, and Spencer just stared "It can't be real." Prentiss lets you take the seat by her and you smile nodding "Maybe I should explain it." Hotch speaks up.

He sums up everything that happened "Y/n was in danger and she needed to be kept safe, so faking her death was the only other choice we had." Hotch explains "That had to be terrible." JJ looks at you in disbelief "Getting on a plane everyday for six months? Or not being with my family?" Everyone smiles except Spencer he just looks down.

"Both." Rossi answered "So I hear we got a case?" You question Garcia nods and briefs everybody on the case "Wheels up in thirty guys." You each file out and get your stuff together.

"Hey JJ?" She walks over "How's Spence?" She glances over at him "He fell apart after you 'died' and it took him a while." She explains "Right..." You look down "Hey he'll come around." You nod trying best to believe her.

"Come on, shortie! Can't be late now, you just got back!" Morgan teases you making you smile and follow everyone out to go meet up at the jet.

You each sit on the jet discussing the case trying your best to get things worked out before touch down "Reid, Y/l/n I want you both to go to the first crime scene when we touch down." Hotch commands you didn't listen to the other commands as you were to busy being worried.

Before you 'died' you and Spencer were great friends. Hell you guys were best friends- and now you were strangers and it broke your heart. But you didn't wanna press him or make him explode even though that seemed impossible.

When you touch down, you did as Hotch said and went to the first crime scene. You walked around trying to piece together what happened "Okay so he probably-" Spencer cut you off explaining the whole crime scene, which kind of annoyed you.

He kept a rant going and you could tell he was running out of words to say "Spencer, shut up!" You snapped it annoyed you that he was trying to keep you quiet, and you couldn't stand it. He stood there shocked for a second "Why are you ignoring me?!" He looks away and focuses on the crime scene.

"You know what? Do it yourself, there is no team work here if you're going to be a prick about things. I can do more work at the station." Spencer stood there alone, contemplating on what to say. When he thought he had words he realized you were gone- again.

You sat at the station with Rossi piecing together a little bit more for the profile. He sighs "You know, he's just shocked." You look at Rossi confused "He thought you were dead." Rossi explains a little more "Still."

"I'm his- I was his best friend. And yet there he is pushing me away." Rossi looks at you "He doesn't know what to say to you at the moment." You thought about it maybe Rossi was right.

You head out of the station seeing Spencer already walking away "Spence!" You call after him jogging toward him.

"Wait! Spencer!" He stops for a second as you grab his shoulder lightly "I'm sorry."

"You, sorry?" He turns towards you tears causing a waterline in his eyes "What for? Making me think my best friend was dead?! Leaving me to believe I would never see you again?!" He officially exploded tears streamed gently down his face.

He didn't know when it started, he knew everything and this time he realized he didn't know everything. He knew when he first met you, when he first started to like you as a best friend, when he started to wanna just hang out with the small girl in front of him, he knew everything about her- and yet he didn't know.

"I didn't even know, I didn't even start to know." He mumbles.

"Know what, Spence?" You question carefully.

"I didn't even know when I started loving you, not until you were gone." Your heart broke at that.

"I love you, Y/n." You look at him before you could respond he leaned down kissing you gently.

You heard cat whistles, and clapping as Spencer rested his forehead against yours "Go pretty boy!" You smile up at Spencer "I love you, Spence." You whisper he just smiles and hugs you.
