Chapter Fourteen
Thursday flew by so fast. I didn't want to go to school because I was afraid of what people would say about me and Nash. Maybe they would try to separate us, or maybe try to break us up.
Dad must have noticed my anxiety. “You seem quiet today.” He said. He was driving me to school since it was Nilo's day off.
“Nervous.” I said honestly.
“Why?”
I sighed. “Well, more of afraid.”
“Because of the reaction of people?” Dad said. “Sadie, you don't have to worry about anything. If he loves you and you love him back, then every single thing will fall into its place.”
“Isn't that a song?” I asked.
Dad rolled his eyes. “The point is, don't let anyone get in the way of your relationship.”
I nodded, not knowing what to say. It was kind of weird asking my dad about this, but he's just thirty-eight years old so I guess he understands the teenage mind since he was kind of young.
A few minutes have gone by and I was in front of the school's gate.
“Go get 'em!” Dad said and kissed my forehead.
“Thanks Dad.” I got out of the car and started walking towards the entrance.
Students were still in their same old morning routine: greeting me casually, drinking coffees, calling their friends, and telling them to hurry up. I sighed in relief. But when I entered the Sophomore Hall, three students came up to me and one of them was sobbing.
“Oh my God, are you alright?” I asked.
“No, but you and Nash are...” She broke off.
“She kind of has a huge crush on Nash.” The other friend explained.
Should I say sorry or what?
“Don't mind her, she's just overly dramatic.” The other one said and they took off.
I stared at them as they walked away.
“What did Sadie Parker do to make that poor girl cry?”
I turned around and saw Rain Henderson.
“I didn't make her cry.” I said and started walking to my locker.
Rain and I weren't in good terms since forever. She wanted to enter the tennis team this year, but Coach Fields said she wasn't good enough. Even when Nash and I were hanging out after they broke up, she would send me messages saying I should back off and leave him alone. Why the hell would I want to do that?
“Sadie, the tennis superstar and Nash's newest girlfriend,” She said.
I looked at her. “Why are you stating all these facts?”
“Oh Sadie, are you really that dumb?” She asked me and I said nothing in return. “Do you really think Nash is gonna waste his precious time hanging around with his little sister's best friend?”
“I'm sure he did waste his precious time with you.” I smirked.
“He never did waste his-”
“Rain, are you really sure? Because when you broke up with him, he realized that you were controlling him like a bulldog in a leash. When Nash and I are together, I always make sure I hear him out, unlike you, you always point out his flaws when he has none. You make him feel like he's not worth it but the truth is, he is much more than worth it. He is the most amazing guy I've ever met and don't you dare think that he's wasting his time around me because we all know he loves me.” I said, slammed my locker door hard, and walked away. Some of the students who heard what I just said applaud. I heard Rain let out a curse but I didn't care.
