Chapter Eighteen

After receiving Nash's text, I called my sister for some advice.

"Sorry for waking you up." I said as I tried to keep myself from crying.

"So what really happened?" Ali asked groggily.

“Well, it all started after the storm – literally – and everything was fine, but after that, we kind of drifted apart. Yeah sure, there were the occasional calls and text, but they weren’t the same as before.” I told her.

“Honeymoon phase,” she said.

“I know,” I sighed. “Then I saw him at Rain’s house the other week. I don’t know why he was there. I didn’t ask because I’m afraid to know the answer. I gave him the cold shoulder, but he didn’t get the message. He’s busy with football; I’m busy with studying, but still. It’s hard.”

Ali laughed. “Sadie, he’s a guy. And he’s busy, like you said. Oh God, he’s your first boyfriend, right?”

“I had dates with other guys, but nothing serious like this.” I mumbled.

“So he is your first boyfriend.” She stated.

“Yeah.”

“Sadie, you can’t have him every single time. Take it slow. You still have the rest of your life to figure out things. He has a life and you have too. Make yourself busy, but don’t forget about your relationship.” She said.

“But how?”

“You’ll figure it out, lil sis.” She yawned.

“Thanks, sis, go back to sleep. Theodore might kill me if he found out I was keeping her wife up in wee hours in the morning.” I joked.

“I heard that!” I heard Theodore said in the background.

“Night, you two, I love you!” I said before hanging up.

I decided to take Ali's advice: take things slow.

The next morning, I woke up early and was in a good mood. I seriously don't know why I was in a good mood though. It was rare for people to wake up early and be in a good mood.

I called the girls, wanting them to be cheery like me. “Good morning!”

“Why do you have to wake up early?” Nadine said. "YOU WOKE ME UP."

“It’s the most unruly hour of the whole day!” Emma complained. She usually wakes up around thirty minutes before Nadine picks them up since she could do things very fast.

“I’m already ready.” Monette said.

“Ugh, you’re always early!” Jenny told Monette.

I laughed at them. “Come on, get ready! Mon, come to my house. Let’s eat breakfast. I’m hungry like a wolf.”

“Sadie is that one girl who eats like an elephant and still doesn’t gain a single pound.” Nadine tried to laugh but her laugh sounded more like a grumpy person murmuring something.

“I work out, unlike you lazy girl!” I said. "Go back to sleep, I have Mon with me."

“I’m already by your gates!” Mon said and hung up.

“Ciao, girls, see you in school.” I made a smooch sound and put my phone in my bag.

I went down and saw Mon.
