Calum's POV
Ivy found me and we began searching for Michael again, I was beginning to loose hope. We went to Michael's house and I quickly tapped on the front door in hope that Michael had come to his senses and come back home. The door finally swung open and Michaels father was standing looking at me "Hi Mr. Clifford I was looking for Michael?" I asked politely, Id never taken a liking to Michaels father I knew that Michael did not have a good relationship with him and whenever I tried to talk to him about football if I was waiting for Michael he never spoke properly to just one word answers.
"No he isn't here. He was going for a walk by the bridge, he hasn't been back yet" The voice of Michaels father brought me back to what was going on "Oh okay, I'll just call him. Thanks" I said turning away and walking back down the path to Ivy who had been waiting for me she looked up at me eagerly I shook my head "He wasn't there. I know where he is though, come on" I told her beginning to run in the direction of the only bridge I could think that Mr. Clifford could have been talking about.
I got there first, pushing through people and stopping to look up at the bridge above me and sure enough I could see a figure sitting on the edge looking down at the water. I heard Ivy gasp behind me I turned to her "Why are you just standing here, Calum?" She shouted shoving me backwards I shook my head "You need to be the one to go to him, Ivy. He wont listen to me please" I pleaded knowing I was not what my best friend needed right now. He didn't need me begging him not to leave me here all alone. He needed someone strong that wouldn't cry as they headed up to him as I was now, I swiped the tears from my face quickly as Ivy nodded at me "Okay" She whispered nodding before taking some deep breaths and walking towards the top of the bridge.
Ivy's POV
I had absolutely no idea what I was to say to Michael when I got to him so I walked slow tying to string a sentence together. He didn't notice as I came to stand beside him "Michael" I barely whispered he twisted his head quickly to look at me "Go away, Ivy" He shouted moving forward slightly "NO" I shouted grabbing his arm "Don't, Please Michael. I cant swim" I said trying to pull him backwards "Neither can I" He said shrugging out of my loose grip on his sleeve "Please don't do this" I whispered hoarsely "Why not? Give me one good reason" He said sharply "Because....I..we don't want you to" I said looking below me and I could just make out Calum's moving figure as he paced up and down every so often he would glance up at us.
I turned back to Michael who turned his head back to looking out at the river that spread out ahead of us "Just step back on this side, Michael that's all I ask" I pleaded desperately I didn't know what else I was supposed to do but try and beg him to come back "I cant" Michael said shaking his head "Why not?" I asked quickly "I didn't do it, Ivy. I didn't kill her" The words stumbled out of his mouth so quickly I wasn't sure I'd heard him right "Who? Michael what are you talking about?" I asked quickly he shook his head and looked up at the sky "Do you think she can see me, Ivy? What is she saying?" He asked looking me directly in the eye for the first time.
His eyes were red and bloodshot the green colour looked faded almost to a light grey colour "Michael just please come over here and talk to me, Calum is here too do you want me to get him?" I asked turning to were I'd last seen Calum but felt Michael's hand grasp the top of my arm twisting me back around to him "No" "Why not? We just want to help you" "Because he'll make me not want do this" He said releasing my arm "You say that like its a bad thing" I told him shaking my head.
I decided to sit up on the railings beside Michael knowing that I would be here a while. I desperately searched my mind for something that could possibly make him come over here "I'm sorry about before, Michael. What I said to you after you came to my house, remember? I didn't mean it, of course I want to see you. I couldn't be without you. I feel empty when your not there with me, like I'm missing half of me or something and I know that's a weird thing to say seeing as we haven't known each other that long but its true" I let the words tumble out of my mouth not thinking over what I was actually saying he turned his head to look me in the eyes but I kept my eyes on the floor "You'll have Calum, he's a better person than I'll ever be" Michael said looking over my head to look at his best friend who was still aimlessly wandering up and down the small part of the path I thought that he would have left a trail with the amount of times he'd walked the same path now.
"Michael, shut up okay? I don't care what you think you've done or haven't done. You and Calum are the only real friends I've had in a long time. No matter what you will always have me and you will always Calum we are in this together there's nothing we cant get past together, Michael just please don't do this" I pleaded one last time standing up straight and holding a hand out hoping that Michael would finally change his mind and let me help him back over the railings.
I began praying for what would be the first time, Id never been religious but I needed all the help I could get right now. For a minute I thought he was about to jump off but he stood up grabbing my hand he wobbled slightly then lost his footing falling off of the edge "MICHAEL!"
