Iris's P.O.V.

I leaned my head against the window in the front seat of my mom's truck, quietly singing to the music that came from my headphones.

My parents had just gotten a divorce after my dad repeatedly cheated on my mom. He got some girl knocked up and left my mom to be with her. He didn't even have a second thought about leaving me. That's why my mom and I are moving back to her home town, Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.

We pulled into the small house that we could barely afford and started grabbing our bags. My dad took all the money we had and left us to deal with the payments. My Mom hadn't had a job, so we had to move into my grandma's old house. The house was already furnished with our old stuff from Utah, so we just had our clothes and other things.

I slung my guitar case over my shoulder and grabbed my keyboard. I hauled them inside to my room. Music was really important to me. I felt like I was in another world anytime I played an instrument or sang. My family always told me I could be famous someday, but I never believed them. I sat on my bed and dropped my head in my hands.

My mom came in and sat next to me. She sighed and rubbed my back.

"I know it's hard, honey. We just have to forget about him," she told me.

"I can't just forget about him, he was my dad!" I yelled as tears formed in my eyes.

My mom didn't say anything, she just pulled me into a hug which I gladly returned. I cried into her shoulder for a few minutes before I took a deep breath and sat up.

My mom wiped my tears, then smiled at me.

"I'm sorry," she said.

"It's not your fault," I told her.

"But maybe it is. If I had been a better wife and not caused so many problems maybe he would've-"

"No, mom." I cut her off. "This is completely his fault. You were a great wife, he was at fault. He could've stayed and tried to fix everything, but he gave up on us. You're right, we just need to forget about him," I said. My sadness slowly turned into anger.

"Let's go get the bags," she said pulling me up.

I grabbed my few bags of clothes and brought them up to my room. Once I finished putting all of my clothes away, I went to the kitchen to start unwrapping all of the silverware, plates, and glasses.

My mom came out of her room with the phone in her hands.

"Yeah, we'll be over in a few," she said looking up at me.

She hung the phone up then walked towards me. "We're going to have dinner with your grandma."

I grabbed my phone from the table and followed my mom to her truck. It was a short drive to my grandma's house because she lived only a few blocks away.

"Iris!" My grandma said slowly walking out of the house. I met her halfway and gave her a hug.

"I've missed you so much," she told me. She kissed my cheek and then hugged my mom. I went inside and sat on her couch.

"So, I hear you're starting high school on Monday. Are you excited?" My grandma asked at the dinner table.

"Not really. It's high school," I said.

"I'm sure it'll be fun," my mom reassured me. I nodded and continued eating my food. When we finished I started the dishes while my grandma talked to my mom about something.

I woke up to the sun shining through my windows. I crawled out of bed and into the bathroom.
