Iris's P. O. V.

School finally ended, and summer was officially here. Jack and I hung out everyday, except for when he was on tour for Playlist and Impact. We had a huge celebration for his 18th birthday in July, which I'll never forget.

His family had been busy and couldn't be with him on his birthday, so I came to surprise him. I had come over that day with cake, ice cream, and my present for him. I got him some new sunglasses and some new shoes. I also made a picture collage with all the pictures we had taken together.

"Iris, I love it," he said hugging me.

He pulled away and looked deep into my eyes. We both leaned in and attached our lips, but we both pulled away quickly.

"Nope," we both said at the same time. We were just friends and the fact that we didn't want to kiss the other proved it.

I continued working on my songs and I finally finished my my first one in August. I immediately called Jack to show him.

"Hey, I have a surprise for you," I told him through the phone.

"Oooh, I'm on my way," he said excitedly. I hung up and prepared myself to sing him this song. I had written it about Jesse, and I know that Jack will figure that out.

Pretty quickly Jack arrived at my house. My mom let him in and sent him to my room.

"Hey Iris," he said walking in. I hugged him and then we sat on my bed.

"Okay, so I finished my song last night," I told him. He immediately got excited.

"Iris! Let me hear it! Right now!!" He started shaking my legs making me laugh. I got up and went to get my phone, but he stopped me.

"I want you to sing it up me," he said copying what I said to him when he showed me his song.

I smiled and set my phone down. I started playing the music and then began singing:

"I've been lonely, missing your body
You've been out of touch,
you're so far away
Wishing you would tell me you're sorry
And you know you made a big mistake

Close my eyes and try to forget you
Every time I do, I just see your face
And after all this shit that we've been through
Why are you so willing to walk away?

I don't know why I stick around to watch you burn our bridges down
I can't help it that I need you
I can't help it that I need you
Now I'm drowning underneath the water that was under me
I'm still screaming that I need you

Burn the bridges, burn them down, down, down, down, down
Burn the bridges, burn them down, down, down, down, down, down

You left me with a craving I can't fill
Got me wondering what I had yesterday
Tell everyone I'm fine, but I'm still
Sitting here, choking on the aftertaste

Can't stay away from you, I try, I try
But you got a grip on my mind

I don't know why I stick around to watch you burn our bridges down
I can't help it that I need you
I can't help it that I need you
Now I'm drowning underneath the water that was under me
I'm still screaming that I need you
I can't help it that I need you

Burn the bridges, burn them down, down, down, down, down
Burn the bridges, burn them down, down, down, down, down, down

Can't stay away from you, I try, I try
But you got a grip on my mind

Now I'm drowning underneath the water that was under me
I'm still screaming that I need you

Burn the bridges, burn them down
Burn the bridges, burn them down
Burn the bridges, burn them down, down, down, down, down
Burn the bridges, burn them down, down, down, down, down, down"

Jack sat there with a huge smile on his face.

"Did you like it?" I asked.

"Liked it?" He scoffed. "I loved it! That was incredible Iris. There's so much emotion in the lyrics and your voice just adds so much to it."

I smiled thanking him and pulled him into a hug.

"It's called 'burning bridges'," I told him.

He paused before looking at me and saying, "it was an amazing song, but I know why you wrote it. You still miss Jesse, don't you?"

I sighed "I do. I really do miss him, but I think writing this song is helping me get over him," I told him.

"That's good. I have a question that'll be a huge step for you, and then I have some news."

"Alright, what's up?"

"How would you feel about sharing your music online? Like starting a YouTube channel, or posting clips on instagram," he suggested. My eyes almost popped out of my head.

"Do you know how hard that would be for me? I don't know if I could handle the comments. You know what happened with comments from people at school," I said quietly.

"But you're past that. You're better now. And yeah there will be some hate comments, but do you know how many supporters you'd gain? I think it would make you feel even better," he told me.

"I'll think about it. Now what's your news?" I asked

"Well, you know how I met those two guys when I was a part of Playlist? Zach and Corbyn?"

"Mhmm."

"They introduced me to two other guys, Daniel and Jonah, and I think we're gonna start a band."

"Are you serious?" I asked, my jaw dropping.

"Yeah," he smiled.

"Oh my gosh, Jack! That's amazing!"

"I'm really excited. We all clicked really well, and we all love the same music."

"Jack I'm so excited for you!"

"There's only one problem."

"What is it?" I asked getting worried.

"I have to move to California."
