Kayla's P. O. V.
*1 month later*
I felt as if I was being mocked as I walked through the hallways of my boring high school. Red and pink hearts covered the walls, and guys handed roses or chocolate to their girlfriends. It all made me think of Daniel, who couldn't make it for Valentine's Day.
It had been almost five months since I had seen him, and it was killing me inside. We would talk every night, but afterwards I'd usually cry because I miss him so much.
I thought maybe for Valentine's Day he could fly out and we could do something sweet and romantic, just like every other cliché couple. But Daniel's manager insisted that he stay and focus on their upcoming album.
Blake, my least favorite person in the entire world, sassily walked up to me with a bouquet of roses in her hand.
"Aw, did your boyfriend forget about you?" She asked sticking out her bottom lip.
"Sorry that I'm not obsessing about what I get from my boyfriend on Valentine's Day. Unlike you, I don't care about the things he buys me. I care about how he treats me."
"Well, that doesn't seem too well since he isn't here." She shrugged.
"He's a celebrity. He can't spend all his time in this shitty town. Plus he's working on an album," I spat.
"They must have a ton of work with auto tune to make their disgusting voices sound good." She laughed. It was too late for me to stop myself. My hand made contact with her cheek.
"What the hell!?" She yelled holding her cheek.
"Ms. Peterson! My office. Now." I turned and saw our principal standing outside her office door. I glared at Blake who smirked before walking over to her boyfriend, Brandon, the star football player.
I sighed before turning on my heels and walking into the principal's office.
"Kayla, this is the third time this week that you two have gotten into an argument. The seventh time this month." She sighed.
"I can't stand her, mom!" I exclaimed.
"What happened?" She asked sitting in her chair.
"She was basically taunting me because her boyfriend is here, and Daniel is in California," I said.
"So you slapped her?"
"No, I told her he's busy with music and she said they should give up because their voices sound disgusting," I spat.
"Listen, you have to understand that she's just jealous. And you know that she messes with you on purpose because she knows how mad it makes you."
"And because she doesn't know you're my mom and wants me to get in trouble." I chuckled.
My mom just sighed while looking at me. "I can't keep letting you off the hook, Kayla. You need to get some tolerance."
"I'll try. I'm sorry, mom."
"It's okay. Now get to class," she said shooing me out of her office.
I walked out of the office and down the hall to my theater class, just before the late bell rang.

"Kayla, do you want this part?" My music instructor, Melanie, asked.
"Yes, of course," I answered quickly.
"Then put some emotion into it. You're singing like a robot." She laughed.
"Okay, I'm sorry."
"Let's start from the beginning," she said pressing a button on her remote.
The music to "Defying Gravity" from the musical, Wicked, started playing. The community theater is putting on the show and if I got the part of Glinda, I'd get noticed by so many producers coming to see the show.
I wanted to make sure my audition went perfect, so I scheduled some extra sessions with my music instructor.
"That was much better."
"Thank you. I have to go home, though. My mom says there's an emergency," I said grabbing my bag and walking towards the door.
"Good luck tomorrow," Melanie said. I thanked her as I walked out of the building and to my car.
I drove home singing along to the soundtrack of Wicked. I had been absolutely obsessed with it since I had heard that my town was putting it on.
I quickly got home and went inside. I walked past the couch looking for my mom, but stopped dead in my tracks. I turned around and saw the guy who stole my heart.
"Daniel!" I dropped my stuff and walked around the couch, jumping into Daniel's arms.
"Kayla!" He shouted spinning me around.
"What are you doing here??" I asked as he set me back on the floor.
"It's Valentine's Day, you thought I'd miss it? Plus, I thought it was time I met your parents." He smiled.
"I love you," I said kissing him.
"He showed up about half an hour ago, asking where you were, and I realized I had never met him," my mom said standing up from the chair I didn't notice she was sitting in.
"Sorry, I just always fly out to see him. Mom, this is my boyfriend, Daniel. Daniel, this is my mom, Theresa."
My mom walked over and hugged Daniel. His tall figure towered over my mom, who was a few inches shorter than I was.
"It's nice to finally meet you."
"You, too." Daniel smiled.
"Although, I feel like I've already met you with how many good things I've heard about you from Kayla," my mom said making me blush. Daniel smiled brightly at me, grabbing my hand and pulling me into a hug.
"Well, you two better get going. Have fun, kids." My mom smiled walking into the kitchen.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"You'll see."
