my heart beated rapidly as i found myself very close in front of him. i was nervous... but also anticipating something, i just had no idea what.
"i know that you can't like me back, but that's okay. i still like you," he said.
the words slipping out from his mouth made my cheeks warm up for some reason. i didn't look up at him afraid some weird feeling would happen.
suddenly his fingers placed themselves under my chin bringing my head up to look at him. the silence between us made me panic slightly when i realized the distance between our faces suddenly closed in.
and then, there came a knock on the door.
we pulled away quickly awkwardly when my mother's voice spoke out first.
"haesoo?– OH, my. i'm sorry. i'm not interrupting anything, am i?"
"er, no, no. um, you're not ms. kang," hoseok said.
i blinked my eyes a few times before shyly looking at the ground. "well, i'm going to be cooking dinner again tonight, and i was wondering if you'd like to stay over again," my mother asked smiling.
"mom, i think he has a family to go to," i quickly said.
"n-no, i wouldn't mind," hoseok quickly said, and i looked at him.
"alright, well, i guess that settles things," my mother smiled. i rubbed the side of my arm awkwardly standing there.
"OH, right. well, i'll, uh, let you two be," my mother chuckled. as she exited out my room, she closed the door after herself leaving hoseok and i alone once more.
"you know, my mother roots for us to get together," i said shaking my head before looking at him.
he ended up smiling once more before giving a small laugh. "yeah, i know. i like your mom."
"so how old are you?" my mother asked at the dinner table.
"i'm 23," hoseok smiled proudly.
"oh, so you're younger than my daughter. do you have any siblings if i may ask?"
"uh, yes. i have an older sister. she's four years older than me," he said.
"do you have any pets?" eunbyul asked.
"actually, i do. i have a pet dog. her name's mickey," hoseok grinned. eunbyul gasped suddenly. "i want to see your dog!"
"sure, maybe sometime i can bring her," hoseok smiled. eunbyul smiled widely and ate the food on her plate.
i admired hoseok seeing how well he was getting with my mother and sister. it remind me at least some of the happy times i had when the whole family was here. but of course, that was the past. who was i kidding?
my mind wondered off when i heard hoseok calling my name. i snapped out of my thoughts instantly before looking at him suddenly.
"you okay?" he whispered softly. i gave a slight nod of my head. "just thinking..."
"thank you for dinner once more ms. kang," hoseok bowed politely to my mother.
"oh, please. don't thank me. safe travels on the way home," my mother told him. "thank you." he bowed again.
being the owner of the house, i walked hoseok out again standing by the door closely this time. "you be careful now."
"no way. is haesoo actually telling me to be careful? that's certainly a first," hoseok sarcastically remarked.
"yah," i punched his arm slightly. "the only time i'm being nice and you make a sarcastic remark."
"i'm just kidding," he laughed. but his laughter died down a bit before he looked at me once more. he closed the gap in between us before placing a light kiss on my forehead.
i suddenly took a step back, slightly surprised by his sudden action. "w-what was that for?"
"a goodnight kiss... goodnight haesoo."
