You watched the world as if trapped under water: It was blurry, you could only make out shapes and vague colors, sound was muffled, you could hear a conversation going on but couldn't distinguish any sense from the sounds, and you felt such a tremendous weight upon your body, yet, at the same time, so weightless.

Like the waves you drifted in and out of consciousness. Occasionally, you would surface just enough to catch fragments of the conversation or see the world in better clarity, but only for a moment before you dipped back again. You could feel the earth moving beneath you, or was that someone carrying you? Your thoughts drifted away almost as soon as they appeared.

"She'll survive... I don't know how... her."

"... make sure... stays breathing..."

Yes, you'd already concluded you were alive.

"...set her here."

Your body was engulfed in pain the second you body shifted in the arms that were holding you and you let it a strangled wail. You could hear a few expletives from the man carrying you as the woman rushed about. What confused you, however, was their language. They spoke English, not Japanese. Where were you?

"She's losing blood fast, the toxicant is wearing off."

"No shit," the voice above you grumbled.

You're own voice seemed foreign to your ears, trapped beneath the water but still distinguishable like the others as you groaned.

"I have to put her under again, we're no where near the base yet, I don't have any of the necessary tools for an emergency operation."

"Well whatever you're gonna do, doc, make it quick."

You felt a small prick on your arm before you waves overcame you again.

The light that passed in front of you seemed to Swati from side to side, making your eyes follow it in confusion. You blinked your eyes rapidly, clearing them to see better. It was a flashlight, attached to a pale hand in a white lab coat. You looked past the hand, searching for a face.

A young woman stared down at you, growing a smile as she realized you were awake. She tugged a lock of golden blond hair behind her ear before setting down the flashlight.

"Glad to see you've recovered nicely. Can you understand me?"

You nodded once, looking past her. The room you found yourself in was large and spacious, holding many cots and even an office at the far end.

"Good, then you know English. I understand you must be confused, but before you attempt to speak I must warn you that your vocal cords were almost irreparably damaged. While I was able to recover them, you will have to undergo some therapy before you're able to speak properly."

You attempted to sit up in your seat, causing her to furrow her brow in concern. When you made no show of pain, she seemed to relax again.

"If I were to retrieve a tablet would you be able to tell me what happened to you?"

You hesitated before nodding. She make a quick trip to her office before returning to your side, at which point you were standing. You seemed to be in scrubs, and lifting your shirt you could see a large bandage wrapped around your torso.

"You had a major wound through your abdomen. Thankfully the toxicant you were shot with acted like a sort of hibernation switch. Your body slowed all actions, even your breathing and your blood flow. When we found you, you had already been at least a day into your 'hibernation'. This caused most of the damage to freeze. Though I'm afraid when we moved you to our camp you began bleeding out again. I was able to operate on you there, but had to wait until we reached our base before I could work on your throat. Here." She offered you a glass panel, a screen for which you could communicate.

Where am I?

You had to pause before you could remember how to write in English. She smiled softly, reading from the side.

"You're in the Overwatch base in Switzerland. A long way away from Hanamura, but this was the best place I could treat you in. Do you remember what happened before we found you?'

I'm supposed to be dead. I shouldn't be alive.

"Yes your injuries were quite severe, but we managed to save you."

No. I'm not supposed to be alive. (Y/N) Tanukyo is supposed to be dead.

She frowned as if in thought. She pulled the tablet out of your hands.

"Athena, search the news for this name? See what you can bring up on her."

"(Y/N) Tanukyo," replied a light, somewhat synthetic voice from somewhere in the room, "Was announced missing  after authorities failed to find her and several women who had worked for the Tanukyo house before they were attacked and killed at 04:00 hours. Her first reappearance was at the Shimada estate, where the Shimada clan took her into their custody. The Shimada house announced her death to authorities after a training accident involving her and two of the residents at the estate."

The doctor watched you, her face morphing into sympathy. She shook her head before speaking.

"And I suppose your recovery would mean someone dear to you will be harmed?"

You nodded.

"Athena, what do you propose we should do?"

"The most efficient option would be to undergo a change in identity."

The doctor turned her attention back to you.

"Do you have another name you could go by?"

You stood there, contemplating your options. It would need to be a foreign name, something more English than Japanese.
