"Become a medicine cat?" Cinderpaw asked, eyes wide. "But why? I don't want to be a medicine cat!"
"It is the will of StarClan." Fallowstripe replied calmly. "So it must be done."
"I don't care what StarClan wants. What about what I want?" Cinderpaw bolted up, looking Fallowstripe in the eye. "I'm sorry, but I can't obey StarClan with that wish."
She bolted out of the den, past shocked cats and Featherleap, who called out for her to stop. She didn't listen. She had to get away to think.
Cinderpaw ran, not knowing or caring where she was going. "A medicine cat?" She thought, slowing down to catch her breath.
The grey she-cat collapsed to the ground, shaking her head. "No, no. I can't be a medicine cat. I want to be a warrior." She whispered to herself, looking up at the sky.
It was getting dark, and she knew she should get back to camp, but she couldn't go back now. She had to be alone.
"Who's there?" Cinderpaw heard a voice call, and she held her breath. Tasting the air, she realized she was in ShadowClan territory.
"I said, who's there?" The voice asked again, and Cinderpaw stumbled to speak.
"I-I'm just an apprentice. I lost me way and didn't realize I was on ShadowClan territory." Cinderpaw replied, voice shaking.
"Well you must be a lazy excuse for an apprentice then." The wonder of the voice appeared, a black tom with blue eyes, and he didn't appear to have a tail.
"I'm sorry, I'll be leaving now." Cinderpaw said, starting to make her way back to ThunderClan territory.
"Well don't come back, okay?" The tom snarled, and Cinderpaw nodded as she ran back to the safety of ThunderClan.
She collapsed when she had made her way deep enough into her own territory. She hadn't ever felt this tired before.
She drifted off, and the grey apprentice opened her eyes to a forest that seemed, different. It was starry, and had a fresh scent to it.
"StarClan?"
