The stars shone up above, and Cinderpaw was sitting outside the medicine cat den, gazing up at them.
She couldn't believe those were her ancestors, watching over her in their bright form. She was amazed by it.
Cinderpaw turned to see a cat coming up towards her. It was a brown tom, covered in white specks.
"Sparrowclaw?" Cinderpaw said, as he padded towards her. "What are you doing?"
"I was about to ask you the same question." Responded Sparrowclaw. "I couldn't sleep. I'm guessing you couldn't either?"
Cinderpaw nodded, looking back up at the sky.
"It's beautiful isn't it?" The warrior asked. "The stars. It's sometimes hard to believe that one day we could be up there."
Cinderpaw took her gaze away from the sky, and turned to face the warrior.
"Do you ever ... I don't know, wonder why StarClan is letting this happen to us?"
Sparrowclaw shrugged. "I mean, they have their reasons. Why should we question them? You should know, as a medicine cat."
"Yeah well I don't know everything." Snapped the grey she-cat. "I'm sorry." She quickly added, shaking her head. "I'm just worried with all that's happened lately."
"I understand." The tom said, resting his tail lightly on her shoulder. Cinderpaw took in a quick breath, feeling her face turn hot. She turned away from Sparrowclaw.
"Do you need poppy seeds to help you sleep?" She asked, standing up. "I could get you some."
The warrior shook his head. "I'll be fine. Until tomorrow."
"Until tomorrow." Nodded Cinderpaw.
When the tom was gone, she grunted to herself. She knew he only saw Cinderpaw as a friend, as she couldn't feel like this. She was a medicine cat.
She didn't know why it didn't seem wrong, but she knew it was. She just wished he could know how she felt.
