(lawdy I'm sorry for being inactive for just under a month, school work just go inSANE for me and I had no time. For anyone wondering I still have a few more chapters until this ends so don't worry!)
The familiar strong medicinal smell is the first to greet Isabelle to her senses, and by familiar, it wasn't at all a nice kind of familiar. Not a welcoming or pleasant familiar. The smell lingered in her nose and throat, taking all of her might not to cough or gag but it was enough to rip her unconscious self back to reality.
A reality where pain was evident and the smell of medicine was overpowering.
Squinting her eyes opening she carefully adjusted to the harsh brightness in the room, to contrast the very first time this happened, she simply lay still and unmoving as she began to piece together what she could remember of the conflict in Berlin. Remembering fragments, tiny pieces to the puzzle but enough to feel raw emotion.
Remembering why they were at the airport in the first place, remembering seeing Peter for the first time after a short while and how angry she was at Tony for dragging her boyfriend into the mess. Remembering that just when she thought things couldn't get worse, they did, Steve practically killing her by giving Bucky the order to do so.
Once her eyes fully adjusted to the room, they settled upon a figure in the corner, mindlessly thumbing at his phone. Her heart clenched as tears welled in her eyes, partly from the pain of his betrayal and partly from the literal pain in her body. She wanted to not be mad at Peter, and by the gods she was incredibly mad at him, she wanted to understand why of all things did he even agree to accompany Tony.
But Peter had no clue how much just siding against her, hurt her.
He would be lying if he told anyone that he didn't feel guilty for what happened to her, in fact, he was positive that she would be perfectly safe if it weren't for the fact that the conflict had ensued between the two divisions.
For the first two nights since Isabelle's admission, he sat in that room by her side in hopes that she'd wake up. The other two he spent half of his days in the room waiting for her to wake up, while the other half was spent doing his school duties and hanging around Ned for a distraction.
After five days of nothing, hearing her sniffle and her shift upwards to sit up jerked his attention to her immediately. He had never stood up so quickly in his life before, a relieved smile spread across his face and he crosses over from his seat to her bedside. Only the short moment of happiness for Peter was over before it even began, by the look on Isabelle's face.
He had only just inched closer to her, reaching out to grab her hand when she retracted it, pulling it back toward her. "Don't." She choked out, her eyes already red to accompany the tears on her face. Peter's face dropped, a lump forming in his throat, "w-what?"
Isabelle's jaw tightened as she refused to look at the boy standing in front of her. "Go away." Her voice stern, raw and full of emotion. One might say she was being too harsh on the boy, others would say she did almost die so it was perfectly excusable for her to act in such a way. Peter's face contorted into some form of pain, he knew that he had to make things right with her.
He also knew that she was incredibly stubborn, but he would just have to not back down until there was a compromise made. While he was sure that being on Tony's side seemed right, it didn't at all seem right to go against his own girlfriend. He shook his head defiantly, "I'm not going anywhere."
She dryly chuckled in response, her fists clenching. Peter licked his lips and swallowed the lump in his throat as he took a seat beside her bed, "Not until we work things out." He added, softly in that voice Isabelle loved hearing. "You made things pretty clear to me when you went behind my back and sided with Tony."
