Sage's POV

I look down at Cassiel and smile. After talking for the past hour he's finally past out. I hate to admit it but I missed him a lot more than I should have. He's like a brother to me. I'm not supposed to feel this way about him. But I do. And the worst part is I can never say that out loud.

I hear a noise come from outside. The sound of bones popping and rearranging into place fills the room, followed by flesh ripping and the spray of blood. The hair on the nape of my neck started to rise. A low growl ripped itself from my throat as footsteps made their way towards the door. A very naked Finnegan emerged from outside, making his way towards the bathroom.

"Fuck, Finn." I sigh in relief, placing a hand on my chest.

"What? Did I scare you?" He replied bluntly from the bathroom.

"No, but you almost had your throat ripped out." I laugh.

"You wouldn't do that, even if it wasn't me."

"Why do you say that?" I asked.

"Because Cassiel's here." He said, his signature Cheshire Cat grin splitting through his face like a deep gash as he reappeared from the bathroom fully clothed.

I immediately tensed up. What did Cassiel have to do with me ripping Finnegan's throat out? Nothing as far as I knew. Finn couldn't know about the feelings I held toward Cassiel. I had only just discovered them myself. He couldn't know. Could he?

"I don't know what you're talking about?" I reply bluntly.

"I think you do Sage." He continued to grin.

"Wipe that grin off your face Finnegan before I smack it off," I growled. "And I don't think I do, care to elaborate."

"I'm talking about that, " He said, nodding his head towards us. "Friends who are almost like brothers don't cuddle." He paused. "Not unless there's something going on."

"There's nothing going on between Cas and me." I sighed in defeat. "He doesn't even know how I feel."

"Maybe you should tell him," Finnegan suggested. "Stop hiding things from Cas, he knows when you're lying to him."

"Maybe," I say. "But I doubt he feels the same."

"You never know unless you ask."

I glanced up at Finnegan. I feel bad for the guy. He was a wreck when we left to look for Dayna. He was close to tears when my father told him he couldn't help us find her. She's his mate for fuck's sake. It's his bloody right to look for her. Three months we searched for her. Every clue we found to lead us to a dead end. It's like Dayna just disappeared into thin air.

"I'm sorry, Finn," I mutter.

"For?"

"Dayna."

"Oh...it's alright." He sighed. "I figured you guys wouldn't find Dayna. I can't even sense her anymore."

My head snapped up. "You can't sense her?" I questioned.

"Nope." He said, popping the p.

She really must be gone then. If Finnegan, her own mate, can't detect her presence than what chance do any of us have of finding her. None. There's no way we could find her now. I'm ripped from my thoughts by a soft sob. I look back over at Finnegan and my heart shatters. He's slumped against the wall, his knees brought up to his chest with his hands over his face sobbing. I clamber up from my position on the bed, careful not to wake Cassiel, and walk over to Finn, sitting beside him. I put my arm around his shoulders and bring him into a side hug.

"It's going to be okay, Finn," I whisper softly. "We're not going to give up.
We'll find Dayna, I know we will.

"Thanks." He hiccups.

"No problem."

"If you tell anybody you saw me like this, I'll give you an early funeral," Finnegan growled.

"I wouldn't dream of it." I smile.

As we sat together in silence, I couldn't help but wonder why Finnegan was here.

"So Finn." I start. "What are you doing out here anyway?"

"Oh right, I completely forgot." Finn chuckled, pushing himself up from the ground. "Anna told me to come and collect the two of you."

"Why?" I question.

"Because your mother missed you, Sage." Finn smiled. "And I'm pretty sure you and James have missed Anna's cooking."

My stomach growled at the mention of my mother's cooking. She'd always had the best cooking in my opinion, which would be hard to disagree with if you'd ever tried her food. Finn laughed at me as he offered his hand to help me up from the floor.

"Go on ahead, Finn," I say as he pulls me up from the floor. "I have to wake Cassiel up, and we all know what he's like if you wake him."

"Yeah, I do." He laughed as he ran out the door.

I saunter over to Cassiel, not wanting to wake him. Cassiel has always been an overly cranky individual if anyone was to wake him from his sleep.

"Cas, "

"Cassie,"

"Cassiel!"

"What the flip do you want, knucklehead!" Cassiel shouted as he sent a pillow flying towards my head.

"To get your ass out of bed." I retort. "And did you just say flip?"

"Yeah I did, you have a problem with that?" He said, glaring at me.

"No, it's just I've never heard you swear." I laugh. "Even if it's the three-year-old version."

"Well flipping guess what flip face, I don't give two flying flips what flipping version of flipping swearing I do as flipping long as you flip the flip off before I flipping shove my flipping foot down your flipping throat!" Cassiel threatened, making me burst into a fit of side-splitting laughter.

"That's a lot of flips, Cas." I wheeze as I struggle to breathe.

"What flipping ever," Cassiel muttered.

"Come on Cas, we gotta go," I say.

"Where? " He whined.

"Home," I repeat in the same whiny tone he used.

"Why?" He said, cocking his head to the side. He never failed to look adorable when he did that.

"Because dinner's ready."
