Zarriah had said that she didn't agree with my decision but in the end, it's my choice and she can't stop me. She'd also insisted that we stay the night and leave in the morning after breakfast. Tiberius was furious at my decision, ranting in a language that no one but Zarriah and Julius could understand and they weren't willing to translate any of it.
Tiberius eventually got tired of ranting and locked himself in his old bedroom. Sage was exhausted so he went to take a nap. Julius disappeared up into the attic to help their maid while Zarriah got started on dinner. My head was swimming with all the thoughts and emotions, I just needed some air.
I headed out of the back door and into the yard, which was more like a small field. There were strategically placed garden beds and hedges, as well as small trees and sculptures. It was lit with small lights sat in the garden beds, fairy lights that had been wrapped around the trees and hanging lights that had been strung from one pole to the next. Stone benches were scattered about randomly. It looked like something straight out of a fairytale.
I situated myself on the stone bench in the middle of the garden and let myself relax. The sun was only just beginning to set, the warm afternoon rays casting a warm glow over the garden. I closed my eyes, enjoying the warmth. I heard someone approaching but kept my eyes closed. I knew those footsteps.
"You aren't going to tell me I'm an idiot for deciding to rescue my friend, are you?"
Fabian chuckled before sitting down next to me. "No. I'm going to keep my opinion to myself. Although I do think what you're doing is noble, for a human."
I opened my eyes and turned to face him. "The only person in this house who agrees with me is Sage and that's because this is personal. She's family. If you don't agree I'd rather you just said so."
"It doesn't matter what I think." Fabian shrugged.
"What do you mean it doesn't matter?" I exclaimed. "You're one of my best friends! Of course, it matters what you think!"
Fabian sighed. "It doesn't matter if I agree or disagree. I'll follow you either way."
I quirked an eyebrow at him. Fabian just rolled his eyes and continued talking. "When we find your brothers and complete this ritual you'll be a werewolf. You'll be an Alpha. You already have a pack, Cas, you just need to find them and you're already so close to finding Michael. I don't have a pack. And, if it's alright with you, I'd like to be apart of yours. You're my best friend and I really couldn't see myself being a part of any other pack."
"I know what I'm going to become, Fabes." I smiled. "Did you really think I wouldn't ask you to be a part of my pack? At the rate we're going, there's no chance in hell you wouldn't be anything less than my Beta."
Fabian's head shot up, clearly surprised. "Seriously? You'd trust me with that much power? I could barely handle the amount of power I had in my old pack and I was an Omega."
"There's nobody else I'd rather have as my Beta." I grinned, throwing my arm around his neck and pulling him into a headlock, rubbing my knuckles across his skull.
He quickly pulled himself out of the headlock, rubbing the top of his head with a pained expression. "Not even Sage?"
"Sage is going to be the next Alpha for his pack," I explained. "Isn't that classed as an insult towards his status?"
"Yeah, it is." Fabian sighed. "I just figured you would have asked him first, considering he's your boyfriend and all."
My face contorted in confusion. "Sage is not my boyfriend."
"He isn't?" Fabian questioned, confusion clear in his voice. "But I thought..." He trailed off before it all clicked inside his head. "You two haven't talked about it yet."
It was my turn to sigh. Fabian was right. We hadn't talked about it. We hadn't even talked about the night we both admitted how we felt and kissed. Although truth be told, there wasn't a lot of talking after that first kiss. There was a lot of kissing though. We hadn't had the chance to talk about it. I doubt we would until after we found Michael and made it back to James and Anna.
"You should go talk to him now," Fabian ordered.
                              "But he's asleep," I argued.
"Do you really think he's going to care if you wake him?" Fabian countered.
I groaned and rolled my eyes, forcing myself to stand and walk back towards the house.
"Get some, Casanova!" Fabian called after me.
I laughed as I picked up speed, jogging towards the house. The closer I got, the more excited I became until I was sprinting through the back door and up the stairs towards Sage's room. I burst through the door, ready to tackle Sage. But he wasn't there.
I stopped short as I scanned the room and rushed to the bathroom checking it as well. Sage wasn't here. I figured he had gone down to the kitchen to talk with Zarriah. I moved towards the door to head downstairs but stopped again when I noticed the bit of paper on the bedside table.
I turned back towards the bed and scooped up the note, quickly flipping it open and reading its contents. I slowly dropped down on the bed as I read the note that was clearly in Sage's handwriting, worry and dread filling my chest.
He'd gone after her on his own.
