Eternal Love (Katniss and Peeta)

Chapter 22

I was still asleep. Well that's not true, I wasn't really. My mind was awake, but I was exhausted, so I just lay there with my eyes closed. I could feel Katniss curled up beside me. I could feel her heart beat. I could feel the light sheets on top of me, but I wasn't actually awake.

I had literally just decided I would try and go back to sleep when the screaming began.
I 'woke' with a start.
"Katniss?" I asked leaning over her. Suddenly she bolted upright. "Oh Peeta!" she exclaimed throwing her arms around me.
I moved my thumb on the back of her neck in small soothing patterns.
"What's wrong?" I whispered
"I had a nightmare" she stated.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked
"Yeah" she paused. "We were back home, but for some reason we'd decided to go out for a picnic and there was some sort of hidden trap, like there were leaves and stuff covering it and you feel into it but it was a large hole and there were giant spikes in it. And you - you fell down it. And yo- and you died." She wailed tightening her grip around me
"It's okay" I murmured. "I promise I'll try not to fall down any holes"
"Good"
I pulled out of the hug to examine her face. "Katniss you were crying" I whispered, wiping a stray tear away
She quickly wiped her eyes. "Yeah, it's okay, I'm fine now. I promise."

It was then I realised it.
Katniss and I aren't whole.
We were two broken pieces.
Between my hijacking and her nightmares, we were two broken pieces that fit perfectly together.
We aren't whole unless we're together. We need each other.

That's extremely comforting. We need each other.

"Let's go!" Katniss chirped. "This is our last day in the Capitol. I'll look up to see what we can do in district one."
"Let's make the most of what the Capitol has to offer then" I said grabbing her hand

I quickly made a stack on pancakes each. Katniss drenched hers with maple syrup.

"We could book ourselves in for one of those tour things they're doing." I suggested
"Yeah, that sounds like fun. She replied, eating the last bite of her pancakes.

The rest of our time in the Capitol was fun but I was glad to get on to the districts.
District 1.
District 2. Quick glimpse on Enobaria, but she didn't see us
District 3.
District 4. Long conversation with Annie, Eva and Finnick Jr.
District 5.
District 6.
District 7. Catch up with Liz who was telling us about the present she was getting Jo for her birthday.
District 8.
District 9.
District 10.
District 11.
Skipped District 12
District 13 - that's where we were now.

Our honeymoon is nearly over.
"Y'know Peeta, we've had sex in every district and the Capitol, are we trying to get a record?" She said
"Hey, I guess you're right" I laughed "wait what about this one, it's our last day."
"Well we don't want our record to go to waste" she answered with a wink.

I brought my lips to hers. And that's when it happened.
We've had sex - or made love - in every district and the Capitol.
"So what do we get for our record?" I asked still trying to regain my breath
"We get the pleasure of knowing we managed it" she answered.
"I think that was a good record to aim for. Y'know you're good at it you know" I wink
Katniss blushes crimson and burns her face in the crook of my neck. "Thanks" she mumbled "you're not too bad yourself"

"I love you. I will always love you Katniss, god dammit you're flawless" I murmured.
"Forever and always, right?" She asked
And so I confirmed.
"Forever and Always"
