Jay's POV, 6:57 a.m
Dave and I decided to go for a jog this morning. He wanted to take my mind off of things because this morning, I found out that my auntie is sick and she's in the hospital. I'm pissed off because I can't fly out to Chicago this weekend to check on her. Dave wanted to help me blow off some steam. Also, ya girl needs to stay in shape. During our workout session, he wanted to stop by his friend's brand new juice bar.
We walked in, and it's a couple more of his boys in there. Who knew that niggas like getting up this early.
"What type of smoothie did you get?" Dave asked as I examined his body. This man was buff for no reason and he was fine. Him being like 6'5 makes it even harder because I love tall guys. I feel like a midget compared to him.
"Jay?" He asked again as I stepped out of my trance.
"Aw... um I got a smoothie with strawberry, peach, and mango."
"I ain't know you liked strawberries, I would've fed you some last night." He said winking and we both laughed hysterically.
"Nigga I heard that... you sittin' up here flirtin' wit her. What if I wanted to take a shot?" His friend said as he winked at me.
Man what the heck... I couldn't help, but to laugh though.
"Well Dave is my guy best friend... I'm sure he wouldn't mind." I said patting his muscular back gently as he glared at me. Then, we both laughed.
Afterwards, I heard my pager go off. I checked it and I was getting paged a 9-1-1 from Chris and the Chief....
"What's wrong?" Dave asked as he grabbed our drinks.
I also heard his pager go off.
"It's time for us to go to work. That's what's wrong." I said grabbing my drink as we both walked out the door.
"I guess play time is over." He said chuckling as we walked down the street.
Yep, now it's time to get down to business.
20 Minutes Later
"What's going on? You paged me?" I asked as I found Chris down in the E.R. The Chief was walking with Dave.
"Yeah... we gotta case and I need to see if it's just me or if you're thinking the same thing when you evaluate this patient." He said as I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.
Until the paramedics rolled this man in on a stretcher.
"We have a 33 year old male and he has G.S.Ws to the head, chest, abdomen, and lower extremities. He also has a fractured humerus after falling down the stairs." The paramedic said as they shifted him to the bed.
"Dang where didn't he get shot?" Dave asked as I shook my head.
"This almost sounds like a Chicago case... can somebody tell me what happened?" I asked around as a woman walked in with a little girl.
"She didn't mean to do it. It was an accident. She's so sorry! Is he gonna be okay? Please tell me my husband is gonna be okay." The lady said as the little girl looked at me with a blank face.
There was no sign of remorse anywhere.
"Ma'am how old is she?" I asked as I squatted down to the little girl's level.
"She's only 6...." She said as I furrowed my eyebrows and everybody else in the room did the same. The woman had a broken bloody nose and blood leaking from her lip.
"Manali watch her... ma'am can you follow me?" The Chief said as the lady handed the little girl to me.
"I need you to order C.T scans and we need to get him up to the O.R to control the bleeding and remove the bullets." Chief said as everybody shook their heads okay.
