Jay's Anatomy

Jay's POV

"Jay how have you really been? When Carmen told me that you were down here, I was so surprised." Mama Joyce said as we continued to eat.

Chris sat next to me and we sat across from our moms.

"I've been well. Miami is beautiful. I was originally gonna stay at the University of Chicago's Medical Center until I got a nice offer at Miami General. The Mexico trip really helped me with connections to people and job opportunities. Miami is also paying me better." I said as we all chuckled.

"She really is outstanding at what she does. I mean, yeah I've witnessed her work in Mexico when we were younger, but now... I'm amazed. She really has a gift." Chris said as he looked at me with a sweet gaze.

I blushed at the sight and then we looked up to see our moms smiling at us.

"Chris... stop hyping me up before I get cocky." I said as we all laughed in unison.

"I'm taking my compliment back then... you're so ungrateful." He said as he laughed and I slightly pushed him.

"Chris what happened?" Mama Joyce asked as he looked at her in confusion.

"With what?" He asked as he looked over at me.

"With you... and Jay... from the start I always told you that I liked her. When you both first met, Carmen and I saw the sparks between you two. It's like y'all were inseparable. I know I kinda messed things up by moving us out of Chicago, but what happened after that?" She asked as Chris looked at me. He began to speak...

"I messed up Ma... We both had a lot going on in Mexico and I wasn't ready to be there. I wasn't ready to take responsibility like that. I was young and dumb like they all say. Then, after the trip, we cut ties with each other... and I met Zoey." He said as my mom cut him off.

"Yeah... who's this Zoey girl? We hear the nurses talk about her all the time and something about a miscarriage??" She asked as I placed my palm on the side of my face.

"Look... Zoey is irrelevant now. Chris was with her when I came here to Miami. Things started going downhill with them after I arrived because Chris and I.... we still had feelings for each other."

Chris' POV

What she mean "had" feelings? I still do have feelings for her and I thought for sure that she felt the same way. Don't tell me that Dave won officially. I'm not trying to give up yet.

"Yeah... Zoey had a miscarriage... but I'm not even sure that the baby was mine. Don't even ask cause I'm tired of explaining the whole thing to people." I said as my mother and Jay's mom furrowed their eyebrows at me.

"Let me rephrase that cause y'all are technically our parents and that was disrespectful... what I meant to say was... I would like to keep that in the past and not revisit that situation because I'm turning a new leaf. After all that transpired, I broke up with her after I found out that she cheated on me. I was really done with her the minute Jay walked through the doors of the hospital. I was ready to be there and step up." I said as Jay looked at me weird.

"There's someone else now?" She asked as I looked at her with my eyes widened.

"What!? A new woman? No... someone else like who?" I asked as Jay and I started our own conversation. I'm sure they were watching us very intensely.

"You said that you wanted to turn a new leaf after Zoey... and the new leaf sure isn't me, so who else is it? Is it a nurse? Another Doctor?" She asked as I started chuckling and I almost slouched down in my seat.
