Hours Later in Jay's POV

I stood up at the nurse's station filling out the rest of the information on one of my patients. As I looked out the corner of my eye, I saw Laila and her mother walk into the dad's room.

He came out of surgery about an hour ago, and of course he survived. I could hear the conversation from here.

"We're leaving... for good." Her mom said as a small smile crept up on my face.

"As I understand it, you'll be too weak to follow us. So, you might as well not even think about it." She said as I saw his face frown up. He also had a tube in his mouth to help him breath... he couldn't even form words.

He lost out on a good thing. He lost out on his family.

"We're here to say good bye...Laila say good bye to daddy. This is the last you'll be seeing of him." She said as Laila waved to him.

"Bye dad... Feel better." She said as the mom walked out of the room holding her hand.

"Wait wait mommy... can I say bye to Dr. Manali?" She asked as Dave walked over with the Chief.

Laila smiled at me, and the Chief gave me the okay. She ran to me with open arms and I kneeled down to hug her. I rocked her back and forth and I let go for her to look at me.

"You did a great job today... take care of your mom and always remember she'll love you no matter what. Okay?" I said to Laila as she shook her head okay and she hugged me again.

"Bye Jay... and thanks for the donut too." She said as we both giggled at each other.

We let go and she waved to me one last time before they walked away.

"You take care of her you hear me?" I said to the mother as she shook her head okay, and she mouthed "thank you".

"I'm sorry about earlier Manali... just don't go off on another patient like that." The Chief said as he pat my back and he walked off.

"It's 10:46 and I'm hungry." Dave said biting his bottom lip as I hit his shoulder playfully.

"Lets go grab some food..." I said as we walked towards the locker rooms.

"I'm coming too cause I do not wanna go home." Mo said as she walked up with Keith.

"I guess we all going to get some food." Keith said as I shook my head.

"Next time we should be more quiet about our plans." I said to Dave as we all laughed in unison.

"Hey guys." We heard an excited voice come from Zoey as she walked down the hall towards us with Chris' hand in hers. I also saw him kiss her on the cheek. It caught me by surprise, but I just brushed it off.

Keith and Dave said wassup. Moniece and I kept our mouths shut.

Chris looked at me and we exchanged smiles. It's a friendly gesture.

"Where are you guys going? We can join----" Zoey said as I shook my head.

"Dave and I were just leaving to go home... Mo and Keith were too. Come on Dave..." I said as I heard Zoey's voice again.

"Y'all got the same home now?" She asked chuckling.

"Aki ki ki, why don't you mind your own business." I said as Keith started laughing belligerently.

"Have a good night Chris... and Mo and Keith y'all too. Let's try this again, come on Dave." I said as he led the way to the locker room.
