Chris' POV
"Keith... nigga what are you doing?" I asked him as he furrowed his eyebrows at me.
"If we gone take forever, we might as well play some music. We gotta get it bussin' up in here." He said as we both laughed in unison.
"There's no need to play music because I'm just about done." I said grabbing the sutures.
"Alright Jordan, all I have to do is close you up before you come from up under the anesthesia, and you'll be done." I said as Keith put my phone back in my pocket and he grabbed the thread for the stitches.
"You made sure that Jay left right?" I asked Keith as I kept my eyes focused on the patient's head.
"Yeah... she said she was walking out. So, she should be fine." He said as a silence fell over the room.
A door cracked open... please don't tell me it's the Chief... I would be in huge trouble.
"Long time no see Dr. Brown..." I heard a familiar voice say as I stopped my movements.
I took a deep breath and I looked up at Keith... He looked like a deer in headlights... I knew right then and there that this wasn't gonna end well.
"Mr. Burk.... what an unexpected surprise." I said trying to keep my cool.
"Yeah... real unexpected... come take a walk with me." He said as Keith shook his head no at me.
"Keith... close up Jordan and take him back to his room afterwards. Then, I want you to leave and tell Jay that I love her... make sure she knows how much I meant it..." I said as I took a deep breath.
"Ok Chris..." Keith said as he walked towards me and he patted my back. Then, Burk held his gun out towards us, so we could move away from each other.
I walked out of the O.R with my hands up. Burk was right with me...
He walked me into the hallway and then he stopped.
"My wife... was in your hands... and you just let her slip into a coma? Then, you guys had the nerve to take her off of the ventilator??" He asked as I tried to explain the situation one more time.
"Mr. Burk, your wife had several tumors and that affected her brain in several ways. Yes, I was performing the surgery, but it was not my fault that she slipped into a coma. To also repeat, legally we had to take her off of the ventilator because she signed several forms saying that she didn't want to live on one. She also asked us not to resuscitate her if she lost a pulse. I am so deeply sorry about your wife Mr. Burk, but by law, we have to respect the patient's wishes." I said as tears fell from his eyes.
"You and the Chief and that girl took my wife away from me. You deserve to suffer for the pain that you caused." He said as he raised the gun towards me.
There was no where for me to run. At that moment, I closed my eyes and I took a deep breath. Is this what my life has come to? I was supposed to get married... and maybe later start a family with Jay. I was supposed to finally be happy. I almost finally got everything that I ever wanted... but then this had to happen.
I just hope everything goes well for Jay and I hope that she knows that I've always loved her. No one will ever compare to that woman. Even when I'm not here, she'll still be my queen and my baby girl.
Just as I heard his finger touch the trigger, I heard a loud voice.
"Don't shoot him! Please!" She yelled out as I bucked my eyes at her.
"Jay! Are you crazy!? I told you to—" I yelled out at her as she continued to talk. I quickly became angry because she's so freakin' hard headed! I hate when she doesn't listen to me.
