Song: No One Does It Better by You Me At Six

Melody

“Tyler, I need to talk to you,” I hissed when I arrived back downstairs. I had reapplied my makeup and put the cake back in the freezer since it had started to melt during my panic attack.

“What’s up?” he asked with a smile as I pulled him into the kitchen. I couldn’t help but think how that smile was fake; that this hole thing was a charade. I also had no idea how to bring up what I had heard.

“Who’s Leah?” I asked, trying to hide my anger. I really just wanted to punch him and tell him how much of a jerk he was, but I couldn’t just jump to conclusions.

“You heard that?” he asked a bit sheepishly. He scratched the back of his head and stared down at the floor. God, this was a bad sign. Why hadn’t I just listened to my dad and stayed away from him to begin with?

“Yes, I heard that! Now, who the fuck is she?” I exclaimed, trying to keep my volume down. I didn’t need my friends hearing everything. They’d probably come in here and start yelling at Tyler, which is something I wouldn’t mind doing myself.

“She this girl at my old school that has this major crush on me. She was constantly kissing up to me and stuff,” he explained. So not what I had been expecting. Ok, so maybe I had been wrong, but what if he was lying?

“But the way you guys were talking, it sounded like she was your girlfriend or something. I mean, why wouldn’t you want her to know about me?” I replied. I was purposely trying to be doubtful for some reason, even if I did want to make up.

“‘Cause she’d probably come here and try to break us up something. She’s crazy,” he answered. His tone told me he was genuinely telling the truth. How the hell would he even come up with some weird story like that off the top of his head?

“So, she’s not your girlfriend?” I questioned again, still not one hundred percent sure sure whether I should believe him or not. I didn’t want to give in and then find out later that he had been lying.

“No, I would never like her. Like I said, she’s crazy. I like you,” he responded with a shy smile. The smile almost made my legs give out. “I would never do something like that to you. What we have means too much to me,” he added when my expression didn’t change. The comment earned a smile from me and then he reached over and pressed his lips against mine. The butterflies in my stomach immediately went wild. I seriously had the worst love-hate with these feelings I had for him. His lips felt so perfect in contact with mine. It felt like it was meant to be.

“I’m would never cheat on you,” he told me softly when he pulled away. I just wanted his lips to come back to mine, but of course we had four other people in the living room waiting for us.

“Melody! Where the fuck is the cake? I’m hungry, Melody!” Cory yelled from the other room. I let out a huff. He seriously needed to learn when to shut his mouth. I quickly grabbed the cake from the freezer.

“You remembered I like ice cream cake?” Tyler questioned, obviously not expecting me to recount what he had told me. He gave me another smile that made my insides melt.

“Of course. Anyway, this looks delicious. Even if I hadn’t known, it looks amazing,” I replied, grabbing some plates and forks. My commented caused him to chuckle before grabbing everything from me, which was probably a good idea since I was pretty clumsy.

“Well, thank you,” he responded, giving me the cutest look ever. All I wanted to do was kiss him again, but I knew we had to get back to everyone else before Cory killed me.

Once we made it back to the living room, we all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ and then Jake said that he had to go because him and his mum needed to get back to London. “Well, it was nice to meet you, Jake. Hopefully, you’ll come back to visit it again,” I told him before pulling him into a hug. I head really began to like Jake and I was hoping that he wouldn’t have to leave. Of course, that was just a dream, but Jake was so nice and he was a really cool guy.

“Hopefully. I’d love to hang out with you guys again,” Jake agreed after I let him go. Jake had really fit in with our little group and I couldn’t help but think it was a shame that he couldn’t hang out with us all the time.

Before Jake and Tyler left, Tyler gave me a quick kiss, causing my friends to fake puke. “See you tomorrow, Mel,” Tyler told me. He was way too adorable. After about twenty minutes, everyone else also left.

“So, I take it the Tyler thing was a misunderstanding,” my dad said once everyone was out the door. I looked over at him with a nod. He obviously knew he was right. He was right a lot, which wasn’t something I liked very much.

“Yeah, Dad, thanks for telling me to give him a chance to explain,” I replied with a sheepish smile. I didn’t like to admit I was wrong.

“Melody, I had a feeling that you just heard a bad part of the conversation. I don’t like to see you upset, love,” he responded, putting an arm around my shoulders. I looked up at him with a smile.

“Even though you were wrong to be so rude to Tyler, but thank you,” I told him. As much as I continually wanted to be angry with him, I just couldn’t. I loved my dad too much to stay angry at him and I knew he would at least try to act better now. He knew Tyler made me happy and that he meant a lot to me. He knew that no matter what, I would still be his little girl and that I would always love him.
