Song: Dance Dance by Fall Out Boy
Melody
“Hey, Melody,” Tyler said when we were done practice. I had invited him over for some feedback. I really just wanted to spend time with him, but I told everyone else that Tyler was good at tell us if we sucked or not.
“Yeah,” I replied, putting my guitar back in its case. Cory, Elliot, and Jared were upstairs getting snacks, so it was Tyler and I downstairs.
“Isn’t there that dance next week?” he questioned. Every year the school had a welcome back dance. Usually when there was some dance, Cory, Elliot, Jared, and I spent the night watching bad movies and eating as many snacks as we could find. We all agreed that the dances were pretty lame.
“Yeah, why?” I replied. I was on the fence on whether I wanted him to ask me of not. I mean, as much as I did want t go out with him, dances really just weren’t my thing.
“Are you going?” he asked, ignoring my own question.
“Well, I wasn’t planning on it, but if you want to, I’ll go,” I replied with a shrug. Spending a night being forced to listen to shitty music with kids I hated sounded pretty terrible, but if Tyler was there, it wouldn’t be too bad.
“I really don’t want to go, but my mum wants me to ‘get involved,’” he responded, using air quotes around ‘get involved’ and rolling his eyes. “She somehow found out about it and thinks it would be a good way for me to make more friends,” he added.
“Oh, well, I’ll go with you if you want,” I offered. It wouldn’t be that bad if Tyler was there. It would give me a chance to show the people who used to bully me that I wasn’t a loner anymore.
“That would be nice. I mean, I don’t really know anyone besides you guys,” he responded, leaning in for a kiss. The butterflies in my stomach immediately went wild as his face got closer to mine. I didn’t think I would ever get used to kissing him on a daily basis.
“Mel, you guys really need to get more snacks. All we could find were pretzels,” Cory complained as the guys walked down the steps. The sudden interruption made us pull apart from each other.
“Hey, this is a no kissing zone. No one wants to see that,” Jared commanded strictly. He shook his head at us before plopping himself down on the couch.
“Sorry, Dad,” I replied sarcastically. I grabbed one of the Cokes from his hand and the bag of pretzels before sitting down next to him.
“Hey, I was eating them!” he exclaimed in astonishment. His mouth formed an O shape that made Elliot chuckle.
“Well, it’s my house,” I retorted jokingly before shoving some of the salty brown rods into my mouth. Jared gave me a pout, but I didn't hand the pretzels back. As annoying as they could be, I was lucky to have these guys as my friends.
Tyler
“I’m so glad you’re going to this, Tyler,” my mum told me on the car ride to go pick Melody up. The only upside to this dance was that I didn’t have to dress up for it. Well, that and the fact that Melody agreed to go with me.
“You do realize I have friends, right?” I asked, trying to hide my annoyed attitude. It kind of sucked that I had to spend my Saturday night going to some dance so I could stand around and pretend to make friends.
“You’re only friends with them because of Melody. It would be nice if you could make friends on your own,” she argued. I guess she was right, but I had easily made three friends and already had a girlfriend. Wasn’t that enough?
