AN: I want to apologize for how long it took me to update this. I've been really busy with school and I've had slight writer's block. Hopefully, I'll have the next chapter up a bit quicker than this one.
Song: Attention by We Are The In Crowd
Melody
“Hey,” Tyler greeted with a smile as he walked into English and sat down. I put my bookmark in my book and looked over at him. I returned his smile as I felt my palms become sweaty.
“Hi,” I replied, feeling my stomach doing a flip-flop. I hated the affect he had on me, but at the same time I loved it. I had never felt like this about anyone.
“So, uh, can I ask you something?” he questioned, looking just as nervous as I felt. I was almost afraid of what he was going to say. My dad had probably scared him off.
“Yeah, of course,” I replied apprehensively. If he didn’t like me anymore because of my dad, my dad would have a seriously angry daughter.
“Does your dad have something against me?” he asked, pulling me out of my thoughts. So it was about my dad. Why did he have to be such an ass? Tyler was a really nice person and he just had to go scaring him off.
“Uh, I don’t think it’s personal. I kinda just think because he isn’t comfortable with me…uh…dating yet,” I replied, running my hands through my hair. I wasn’t exactly sure how to put it without sounding like I thought we were a couple.
“So, we’re dating?” he questioned teasingly. My cheeks immediately got hot and I looked down at my lap, trying to cover my blush.
“Well, I just mean that time we went out was kinda like a date,” I answered. I didn’t want him to think I was being too abrasive by saying we were dating, but I didn’t know how to say it without sounding like I wanted to be ‘official.’
“Does that mean you want to be dating me?” he asked. I could tell he knew he was just making me more nervous and embarrassed, but he didn’t stop his teasing and questioning.
“Well…kinda,” I replied, feeling my cheeks get hotter if that was possible. I don’t think I had ever been anxious to get a conversation over with before in my whole life.
“Does that mean you want to be you want to be my girlfriend?” he questioned. He had managed to get the attention of our teacher, who had been grading papers. She gave me an encouraging smile when our eyes met
“Uh, maybe…” I trailed off. It took me a moment to realize that he was asking me to be his actual girlfriend and that this wasn’t just him teasing me. “I mean, yes,” I replied, a bit more confidently.
“Cool,” was all he said before the warning bell rang and more kids starting to file in to the classroom. I was still in shock that I had an actual real live boyfriend now.

“Why do you look so happy?” Cory questioned at lunch before everyone else had gotten to our table. I had been smiling so much all morning that my face hurt, but I felt like I was in a dream. I mean, I just had the guy of my dreams ask me to be my girlfriend.
“Tyler asked me to be his girlfriend this morning,” I replied, grinning. I seriously couldn’t wipe the smile off of my face. I don’t think I had ever been so happy.
“Oh my God. Little Melody has a boyfriend!” Cory exclaimed, causing me to shush him. He could be so obnoxious sometimes.
“I heard Melody and boyfriend in the same sentence. What happened?” Jared asked as he took a seat next to Cory. I could tell my cheeks had turned a deep shade of red without even looking in a mirror.
“Tyler and Melody are official now,” Cory replied with a grin. I was already regretting telling him. It would be a miracle if the whole school didn’t know by the end of the day.
“Ooo, you guys a ship name! How about Telody? Or Myler?” Jared exclaimed. I think he might’ve been more excited about this than I was.
“I like Telody,” Cory told him. Jared nodded in agreement. My friends were such weirdos. Sometimes I didn’t even know why I hug out with them.
“God, you guys are so embarrassing,” I muttered, shaking my head at them. Thankfully, Tyler walked over to us and sat down next to me, which caused them to stop talking.
“Hey,” Tyler greeted. Cory and Jared were still grinning like idiots, which caused Tyler to give them strange looks. Elliot then came over and sat down just before the conversation could get awkward.
“So, I wrote this amazing riff last night,” Elliot announced proudly. We hadn’t really met as a band a lot since our first official practice session, so I was stoked to write another song.
“Cool. Do you guys wanna come over tonight so was can practice a bit. My dad said he might be able to get a spot to play at some local show next month because he knows the owner so we’re gonna need to start rehearsing more,” I replied. I had been pretty excited when my dad said he was willing to help us book shows even if he had been an ass to Tyler/
“Your dad can seriously get us a gig?” Elliot asked excitedly. I had failed to mention this to the rest of them since the band thing hadn’t come up too often.
“Yep. He said that Bring Me used to play at this venue a lot before they got signed and stuff, but he still knows the owner,” I replied with a grin. I knew that they would all be excited for our first gig.
“Tell your dad he’s awesome,” Jared told me before taking a bite of his sandwich. As awesome as this made my father, he was still a jerk for acting so arrogant to Tyler. I mean, I love him and all, but can’t he just be glad that I’m happy for once?
“So, are we gonna play covers?” Cory questioned. We really only had one song that we had written ourselves, so it looked like we were going to have to play mostly covers.
“Well, what about that song you guys played when I went to your practice?” Tyler questioned. “I really liked that one,” he added. The compliment caused me to blush and smile at the same time. I wondered if he could tell I wrote the song about him.
“We could play that one and maybe if we write another one, we could play that, but I doubt we can write twenty minutes of material in less than a month,” Jared pointed out. I had faith that we could write at least one or two more songs, but we definitely couldn’t write four.
“I think we should play a We Are The In Crowd song,” Cory suggested. Cory had the biggest crush on Tay Jardine even though she could be his parent since she was around the same age as my dad.
“I like that. We could play one that Jordan doesn’t sing on,” I replied. We ended spending the whole lunch period trying to come up with songs to learn. Between this and Tyler and I becoming an actual couple, my dad couldn’t have been better.
