Ch. 25 ~ Sunshine

          Campbell walked back into the room. He frowned.
          "Oh, wonderful, they're making out." He dragged in a large bat covered in nails. Most of them were the pointed side up.
          David pulled away and looked up at Cameron. Daniel pulled David close.
          "It's okay.." Daniel stroked the bit of hair behind David's ears. He stood up and looked at Campbell.
          "Are you ready to die yet?"
          "Not quite, I still have a man to marry and a son to raise." Daniel smiled. He held up his knife from earlier.
          "Lookie what you dropped~!" Daniel mocked. Campbell shrugged. "I decided, if you touch David again. I'll have your head. Your limbs will be decorations to all of the people you deceived!"
          "Hah! I'd like to see you try." Campbell swung his bat Daniel.
          "Missed~!"
          "I won't miss next time!" Campbell swung it but let go. As Campbell predicted, Daniel dodged. This left David in the open. The bat flew and crashed into david's chest.
          More blood filled David's shirt. He tried pushing the large bat off.
          "Damn it.. DAVID.." Daniel dropped his knife and ran over to David. He pulled it out. "Are you oka-"
          He felt sudden pain in his back. The wet feeling of blood rolled down his back. He whipped around and punched Campbell.
          "Daniel!" David's voice was breaking out. Breathing was extreamly difficult after getting hit with the bat.
          Daniel tried to attack Campbell. He ripped the knife from his back and swung at Campbell.
          Cameron kicked Daniel back. He pressed Daniel against the wall and tied his hands together.
          "Now watch~" Cameron kicked Daniel in place. He walked over to David and grabed his hair and lifted him back up. He turned him around with his back facing up. He threw David down and laughed. He swung his bat at David's back.
          "GAH!" David's yell of pain echoed in Daniel's mind. Campbell brought the bat back up and slammed it back down. The nails piercing David's back. Blood was everywhere.
          David would let out whimpers, yelps, and other noises that he made every time the bat slammed sown and the nails cut in.
          "STOP! PLEASE! LEAVE HIM ALONE!" Daniel yelled. He got louder every hit. David's cries hurt Daniel more than the stab.
          "HAHA! THIS IS WHAT," He goes for a larger slam. "YOU," he steadied it for the biggest hit. "DESERVE!" He put every ounce of strength he had and slammed down against David's back.
          David practically screamed. Tears were streaming from his face and blood was all over him.
          Campbell kicked him over. He lifted his bat once more. David looked up at Cameron with fear filled eyes. Then, David's body went motionless.
          Daniel lost it. The ropes snapped. He jumped and grabbed his knife. Before Campbell slammed down once more, Daniel stabbed his arm.
          "GAH!-- you little" Cameron dropped the bat. Daniel pulled the knife out.
          "I SWEAR. YOU HURT HIM. YOU. FUCKING. DIE!" Daniel stabbed Cameron in the chest. He took the damage but acted like it was nothing.
          With everything going on, nobody noticed the door open.
          Campbell grabbed Daniel's neck. Suddenly, Cameron dropped to the ground, dead. Daniel looked at the door and saw Max. He was holding a gun. It had just been fired, at Cameron.
          Daniel tried to catch his breath. The moment he could breathe, the moment of David's body collapsing completely played in his head. He snapped around and jumped next to David.
          Max was in pure shock. David wasn't dead after all. Or was he..
          Daniel sat next to David and lifted his head up. He held David's unconscious, motionless body in his arms.
          Tears streamed down his face. He burried his face on David's chest. 
          "No....Nononononoo... I just.. I just got you back." His troat was aching. He couldn't speak without feeling like his words and feelings were choking him "I just got you back... I can't lose you again..!"
          "Daniel..?" Max said quietly. Then he was silent again.
          "David.. I can't do this alone.. I need you..!" He layed his forehead against David. "Please don't leave me.."
          Max sat down behind Daniel.
          "I fucking need you David.. We need to raise him..." Daniel whiped some of his tears. "We.. we were going to get married.. We were going to continue being the best dad's we could.. " Daniel couldn't help but smile a bit. Thinking about living with David made him happy.
          "We could've put this all behind us. Be happy... together.. all of us." Daniel couldn't stop crying. "But now... you're gone again..." He looked at Max. "Now... we're alone..."
          Tears formed in Max's eyes. He ran over and sat next to Daniel. He suddenly remembered the lyrics to the song he sung that one night. The night he couldn't stop thinking about his past.
          Daniel hugged David.

"You are my sunshine,"

"my only sunshine"

"You make me happy"

"when skies are gray"

"You'll never know dear,"

"how much I love you"

"Please don't take my sunshine away."

          "Please don't take my sunshine away..." Daniel kissed David one last time. He brought Max closer. Max hugged David as well.
           They both leaned down and hugged David. Neither Daniel or Max wanted to leave. They felt an arm wrap around them back.
          "Daniel..?" Max said quietly.
          "I thought that was you Max.." Daniel said in the same tone. They heard a weak giggle. David was looking up at them, smiling the best he can.
          "You two are adorable..." 
          "DAVID!" They both gasped. They helped him up.
          "Dad! You're alive!" Max hugged David. He tried to be careful so he didn't injure him more.
          Daniel kissed David's cheek.

          "Welcome back." Daniel smiled.
          "Daniel, don't act tough now. I heard you crying. Nice voice by the way." David couldn't help but giggle. Daniel blushed.
          "WHAA ? HAH. NOO--" Daniel whiped his remaining tears.

          "OH DEAR!" The nurse walked in. "I- I- ... He's dead.. right..?" She asked, almost fainting. The three boys nodded. "Okay.. you two men look badly injured." She motioned for them to follow her.
          Daniel helped David up. He helped him walk to the elavator. They went up to a room where they could be helped. Since David looked severely worse, he went into the room. A doctor took daniel into another room to check out the knife wounds.
          Daniel was out pretty soon. David had to stay there for a few weeks.
          Daniel and Max visited the hospital every Wednesday afternoon and Saturday.
          In about a month David was let out. He didn't do much around the house until he felt his entergy was back. He still cooked dinner and did dishes. Though he didn't clean much of everything else.
           Max was doing better in school after he realised he can be happy. Things stopped being crazy and they acted like a normal family.
          Daniel and David finally had their wedding. Everyone that attended Camp Campbell attended. Even Gwen.
          Max was happy to see Nikki and Neil again. By some magic they became step siblings anyways.
          Sometimes at night if David or Daniel are having a hard time sleeping, they sing that song. Out of it all, those seem to be their happiest moments.
          They finally lived a happy life.
