Katerina's POV
It took me weeks to decide whether or not if I wanted to go to Roberto's Birthday Party.
All I could think of was the harem, and the harem was most likely going to be present at his party.
But Joshua was right.
If I loved Roberto, I should be there. To support him. No matter what. And most importantly fight for him-- for us-- no matter what.
Just because someone didn't approve the choice that I had made five years ago-- that didn't mean I should let that define me.
Before I had ran away, I followed the rules-- to the best of my ability. I was a good girl, the good Princess, but one day-- one day, I just finally told myself that this wasn't the life that I had wanted.
I wanted a normal life.
But normal will never be a part of my life.
I found my mother in her studio and found her painting, like usual.
"You still paint," I commented as I sat down on the couch that was in front of her easel.
"Of course," She laughed as she continued to paint.
I smiled faintly.
"Do you think I could get a dress for Roberto's party in time?" I asked as I looked out of the window. Her studio faced the courtyard.
"So, you finally decided that you want to go."
"Late, but yes, I want to go still."
"I don't think it will be difficult to find you a dress." My mother said. "We'll look for dresses after I'm done with this painting."
"But I thought that you were done?" I turned to look at my mother.
She put her other painting aside and put a new canvas on her easel.
"I want to paint you looking out the window," She said. "So stay like that for a little while longer."
I let my mother paint me.
Before I had ran away, she used to paint me all the time. So now, we are finally going back to how we were.
"Can I look at the painting?" I asked once my mother was finished painting me.
She gave me a well known smile.
"You know the rules," She said as she put the painting of me on a table. "You can't look at it yet. Not until it's dry and sealed."
"Was worth a shot," I shrugged.
"Let's go and pick out a dress for you," She said as we exited her studio.
She had Jan put together a rack of ball gowns for me to choose from.
We were in my room trying to choose a dress for Roberto's party.
"I think I like this one," I said as I took out a nice deep emerald green dress from the rack.
"The color is nice," My mother agreed. "But I think you shouldn't wear a sleeveless dress to this party."
"What about this one then?" I took out another dress from the rack.
This dress was a light gray ball gown with short sleeves and tulle for the skirts of the dress. The back looked like it would flare out at the bottom for a small train.
My mother looked pleased with this one.
"Try this one on," She said.
And so I did. She helped me into the dress.
Once my mother had zipped up the back, I looked at my reflection in my full length mirror.
The neckline was perfect, it wasn't too showy and it wasn't overly conservative. It was just right.
And the back of the dress did flare out at the bottom to make a small train.
The color of this dress suited me well. Considering my hair and eyes were violet.
"Perfect," I said as my mother played with my hair. To see what kind of hairstyle would suit this dress.
"I think I want my hair down with this dress," I said when my mother tried to put my hair in a low side bun.
"We can curl your hair in loose curls," My mother agreed.
In two days time, I would be wearing this dress to Roberto's Birthday Party. And I'm two days time, I would see Roberto again.
Was I ready to see him again?
I sure hope I was.
