Chapter 14: Weekend Road Trip
Soundtrack: I Like Me Better - Lauv
No one came.
"Oh! I forgot that the little girl can also be good with lies. She's probably just making a fool of us," sa wakas ay wika ni Detective Penber.
"Who is she?" tanong ko.
"If you see her again, go to the opposite direction. It will be best if you don't know anything about her. And if it's possible, don't even breathe the air she's breathing," sagot niya.
Kunot-noo ko siyang tinignan. She's just a small girl with red hair. Why did he seem to regard her like she was a dangerous criminal or something? He talked about her like she could only bring harm to me.
"She's weird but she's just a girl. You can't judge her by the way she talks or looks at you," wika ko.
"Or you can just trust me and do as I say. If you don't know yet, people are scary. They can do inhuman things and kill their own. They can burn a home and wreck a damn family."
"I apologize for the rudeness, Miss Devereaux. There are doors you shouldn't open because of the monsters behind them and right now, I'm trying to pull you away from a door that has a death sign on it," he said.
"Why are you here?" tanong ko.
He finally looked business – a dirty business. And again I asked myself, should I really trust him?
"It's still about the Harry and Eleonor murder case. But this time, I want to ask you questions about William Devereaux."
