Chapter Twenty Two - Becoming Luna

After talking to Sam and Evey a bit longer, Evey begged us to join them when Sam meets their parents on Saturday. Understanding how daunting it could be, we easily agreed to be there too.

So here we were, at the front door of their parents house. Sam looks really anxious and Evey is less bouncy then her normal self.

"You guys will be fine. Just be honest and be genuine." I said reassuringly.

"Thanks Mila. Ok, let's do this." Sam said puffing his chest, trying to show confidence.

We chuckled before knocking. After a few moments, we heard footsteps and the door opened to Angie. She smiled warmly at us before her eyes landed on Sam.

"Is this the rogue that tried to kill my newest family member?" She said, narrowing her eyes at him.

I watched him shrink back a bit at her words. Evey spoke up quickly to defend her partner before things escalated.

"Ma, this is Sam. He's my mate." She said sternly.

Angie looked shocked before looking at me. I smiled at her showing it's true. "And you allowed this?" She asked Derek and I.

"Yes. It was up to Mila. She spoke with him, he gave us helpful information and when they had fought, he never actually hit Mila. He's not a threat and also never had someone offer him a chance." Derek clarified.

After warily letting us in, we all made our way to the dining room to greet Peter. After a nice meal and lots of talking, Angie seemed a lot happier with Sam. I guess seeing his appreciation for friendly pack life and never taking his eyes off Evey helped.

At the end of the night, Peter spoke up surprising us with what he had to say, "So, since the pack has new members and a Luna, when is the ceremony to welcome them all?"

Derek half chokes on his drink. "Umm... I didn't even think about it actually." He looked at me cautiously.

'Would you like to do that?' Derek mind linked me.

'Yeah, I think it'd be great to make it official. It'll be daunting but it's going to happen eventually.' I replied. I kind of figured if I put it off, it'll take away some of the confidence the pack may have in me too.

He gave me a reassuring smile. "Ok, I'll inform the pack. We'll do it next weekend."

A week later and I was staring at myself in the mirror feeling extremely anxious. I'm actually looking forward to being a Luna and helping the pack grow. But I can't help the 'What ifs' I feel. What if I fail them? What if they hate me? What if it's too much pressure? What if...

My thoughts interupted by my mother in law knocking. I yell out a quick "Come in."

She spots me staring myself down in the mirror, giving me a knowing smile. "Honey, breath. I know it's scary and your mind is probably going in every direction but you're very capable, dear."

Smiling warily, my eyes still fixed in the mirror. I'm currently wearing a floor length white dress with my hair down in loose curls. I feel like a princess but my brain just wont switch off.

"Come on sweetheart. You are an amazing woman, my son was instantly taken by you and everyone I've spoken to has said how welcoming and friendly you are. You have nothing to worry about my dear."

It felt nice to know people were taking a liking to me. I turned and gave her a grateful smile, "Thank you." I said before taking in a large breath. "Ok, I'm ready." I plastered on my best smile hoping to convince myself.

Standing to the side of the stage with Greg, Sam and a few other new members, I watched anxiously as Derek addressed the entire pack.

"Tonight we will be welcoming new members to our pack, uniting us all together. As well as new members, we will also be welcoming our Luna." His voice boomed over the crown, they cheer during the pause he takes.

"First I'd like to ask Greg to join me." He said gesturing for him to join Derek. I gave him a big smile before he turned and walked up nervously.

"As some of you may already know, this is Greg, Mate to our Beta Chris from the Silver Moon Pack." He said before turning to face Greg fully.

"Do you, Greg, promise to protect the pack, help us grow and stay loyal to its members?" Derek asks.

"I do." Greg replies without hesitation. And I can't help smiling at his self confidence in front of a large crowd.

Derek slices a blade over his hand before Greg copies. "We welcome you to the Blood Moon Pack." Derek says formally before they shake hands together, merging their blood to seal the bond to his new Alpha.

"Next I'd like Sam to join me." He says after Greg walks to Chris. Sam walls over keeping his head held high.

"Sam has lived a life purely as a rogue, he is joining after proving his lack of intent to harm as well as giving information to help the safety of the pack. Mila fully supports his joining of the pack, being the one to offer it, as do I. He also is also my sisters mate." He says smiling at Sam while also reassuring any nerves the pack has.

"Do you, Sam, promise to protect the pack, help us grow and stay loyal to its members?" Derek asks again.

"I do. I'm extremely grateful for this new start." He says with confidence.

They repeat the welcoming followed by the sliced hand shake before Sam walks to Evey and Derek repeats the process a few more time before I'm the last one left.

After giving me a grin that warms my heart, Derek starts telling the pack about the strength they as well as him get from having a Luna and how happy he is to have me by his side.

"Please join me, Mila." He says after he's finished, while offering a hand.

Happily taking it to make sure I don't pass out from nerves, he begins to talk again. "Now as most of you know, Mila is the sister of Silver Moons Beta. She has had many of you spar with her to test her ability to fight and those who have were pleasantly surprised and happy with the result. I expect everyone to treat her with the utmost respect." His voice boomed, not leaving room for any objections.

"Do you, Mila, agree to be a member of this pack as well as its Luna. To help it grow, to protect its members and stay loyal for as long as you're its Luna?" He asks knowing the answer.

"I do. I promise to always do all I can for the pack." I say confidently to the crowd.

After slicing our hands for the handshake. Derek voices his final announcement.

"Everyone welcome your Luna, Mila!"

The crowd clapped and cheered. As soon as our hands connected, I felt the connection to our pack instantly join with my body and I smiled widely to the pack.

I was officially Luna of the Blood Moon Pack. And I refused to ever let them down.

I'll make them proud to have me by their side...

As long as I don't pass out from the weight of this responsibility I now have.

'You'll be incredible. Stop stressing beautiful, I already know how strong you are. Show them now.' Derek mind links me, feeling my anxiety over powering me.

I give him a genuine smile before going to meet everyone with my head held high.
