"the secret to yoga is this: get angry, and control that fire."
-mo, my yoga instructor."Good morning, everyone. How're we doing?" Bruce asked as he entered the room with a few early birds in it. It was a rec room in the back of a tarot store. Nothing special, but enough.
"Good," some mumbled.
"Tired," others said. "You?"
"I'm good, thanks." He took off his shoes and socks and set up his mat in the front of the room. He did a few stretches to warm up as the rest of the students came in and found their places.
Finally, he stood to greet them.
"My name is Doctor Bruce Banner, for those who are new. Welcome. Let's begin with a sun salutation."
He led them in basic poses to warm them up and soon instructed on more difficult poses. "The secret to challenges is understanding your limitations, and knowing you can break them. Oftentimes, we stop because we are afraid of failure or of pain. So few times are they the outcomes," he explained.
They moved on, everyone achieving personal bests.
"Remember to stay humble in all things. You are not your pride. You are your morals," he explained as a final thought. "Good work. Let's meditate and we'll dismiss."
After class, an elderly Indian woman from the back of the class approached him. Her frail fingers zipped her fleece jacket up.
"Thank you, yogi, for teaching these younger students. It's very important for the art to be passed on."
He smiled and nodded, proud to be thanked like that.
The woman was about to turn to leave when she stopped herself. She looked back at Bruce, and, smiling, said: "You're fooling no one, Hulk."
