Chapter 36 : Don't Be Afraid.

*Elena's View*

The best part? It didn't hurt. When she threw it, I barely felt it. I thought it had found its mark in someone else. For a second, I thought it was Edward and tensed.

But then why did I feel the blood? Why did I be able to taste the blood as well. I stumbled back when I felt my dress become wet with red.

It didn't hurt. But I felt so tired. I fell right there into the solitude of Edward's arms. His eyes were scanning mine. He was frozen in shock.

I closed my eyes. I needed to say something to Edward if this was going to be my last time with him.

But all I could utter was his name.

'Edward'

*Edward's View*

'No! I want to be with her! Do you know who I fucking am! ', I shout at the guards who were restraining me from getting into the hospital room,'Let me be with her! She's my fucking fiancé!'

After Elena got injured, I rushed her to the hospital; my family tailing my car in their own limousine.

I had gotten down and carried her to the emergency entrance where o had to shout to get attention.

Doctors swarmed over me in flushed cheeks and nurses asked me what happened. They were scared. Not because there was a life on the line but of who I was and what I was capable of.
I could inflict bad things on their hospital if they didn't treat Elena with the best and unwavering attention.

They took her but they told me to stay here but I couldn't have it. I needed to be with her. She told my name before she blacked out! She needs me...

'LET ME GO', I shout. The guards there were holding me back. I was so angry that it took five men to slow me down and seven to stop me fully.

I felt helpless and after ten minutes of struggling, I gave in and slumped to the floor.

My parents had arrived and my mother was almost cradling me. The man I was before I met Elena would have laughed but here I was, crying, like a small child in my mother's embrace; my face pressed against the warmth of her chest till there was the point of me hearing her rapid heart beating.

Alice reached us. She must have hitched a ride with my parents and so did Oliver and Derick.

Alice looked at me and I was almost glad that she reassured me with a smile and soft words,'She'll be okay. She's a tough girl'

Leonard finally reached us and he was almost as broken as I was. He heard Alice's words and just hugged her suddenly. She gave in to his warm embrace.

Leonard was sick and couldn't attend the ball. He was probably late because he was informed late. He was sobbing on Alice's shoulders. She patted him and hugged him tighter,'She's a strong girl your majesty'

It's almost a wonder she didn't call him Leonard or Leo. I'm sure he had told her to before. The thought of her having adamant respect for someone surprised me.

'Excuse me your majesty?', a nurse asks; looking at my cradled body unsurely and then to my mother,'We can allow a maximum of three guests'

I wiped my eyes with my sleeve and get up; feeling a rush of hope,'I'm going'

'And I'm family. I'll be going as well', Leonard declared.

'Me too', Derick, Oliver and Alice said at the same time.

Alice scoffed at them,'Don't be silly. I'm her best friend and there should be some female presence there'

I nodded; I didn't like Alice much but she was right. She was the closest to Elena. She knew her long before I did.

The nurse gave us a curt embarrassed smile and led us behind a metal door. She gestured us to be quiet as she led us to Elena's bedside.

She was there. Eyes flung open, drinking water from a cup that another nurse was holding.

She finished her sip and stopped when she saw us,'Edward? Grandpa? Alice?'

She seemed so unsure and scared that if almost broke my heart,'I'm here baby, I'm here'

I went close to her and pulled her to a hug that she gladly gave back as return. I feel her tears start to wet my sleeves.

She whispered,'It hurts Edward. It didn't before but it does now. Edward it hurts. I'm scared'

I wanted to have another freaking meltdown when I heard that. Raina deserved to die for inflicting this pain on Elena just for something as stupid as envy!

I hugged her tighter and softly replied,'It's going to be okay. Don't be afraid'

After Leonard and Alice hugged Elena, the nurse informed us that one would have to stay with her in the hospital. I gladly volunteered among the other two.

We argued but they reluctantly gave up and let me win. Elena had fallen asleep by that time and wasn't a victim to our conflict.

'I'll tell your mum to send some of yours and Elena's clothes', Leonard replied after saying goodbye.

'That'll be deeply appreciated uncle Leonard. Thank you', I say.

He nods, still a bit paralyzed from seeing Elena's fragile form. He turns his back on me depressingly slowly and leaves.

Alice walked up to me and threatened me,'I don't care what position you hold. You better take care of her or I'll kill you myself'

I rolled me eyes,'If I ever treat her badly, you have all my permission to do so'

She nods and grunts, a little satisfied with my answer. She leaves after squeezing Elena's hand. It didn't seem to faze Elena even. She slept soundly.

When everyone left and me and Elena were left alone to our privacy, I slowly leant down and kissed her forehead,'I'll never let anyone hurt you again. Never'
