"Sarah! Sarah!" Kayla called to me from my bedroom. I glanced up from my book. It was a book I had took when I went to the library.
"What now Kayla?" I ask sighing. Every since we got here, not too long ago. My sister has not stopped pointing out amazing things here that weren't at home.
Kayla jumped on my bed making my put my book down to look at her. "Well..? What's so important I can't read the end of this chapter?"
"Come see what mom did!" She exclaimed, jumping off my bed and running for the door. I got up and followed her down the hall towards our mom's room.
Kayla pushed open the door and ran in. I followed her, spotting my mom immediately. She sat on the couch by the window. Something sat in our mom's lap. Her fingers moving swiftly.
Our mom looked up and smiled at me. "How are you honey?"
"I'm good." I say sitting down next to her. Her hair fell in front of her face and I quickly pushed it behind her ear.
I pulled my knees up to my chest and watched over her shoulder. She was knitting something. "What are you making?" I ask.
"A scarf!" Kayla exclaimed happily, as if she just saw the cutest puppy ever. I rolled my eyes at her extreme excitement.
"Very nice..." I say standing up and heading for the door.
"Where are you going?" Kayla asks from behind me. I turn around to face her. A bit of sadness crossed her face.
"To my room." I say pointing outside the bedroom. Kayla walked towards me and clung to my arm. "Can you show me around?" Kayla pleaded.
I shake my head, "Kayla..."
"Please!" She begged again. "Come on Sarah!"
I looked at my mom for help, but she just shrugged and kept knitting. My mom was definitely no help. I mentally groan inside my head.
"Fine Kayla..." I say.
"Yes!" Kayla exclaimed, finally letting go of my arm.~*~
"Do you want to get a tour of around the castle?" I ask Kayla as we finish the inside. She nods her head like a bobble head and I laugh. We head for the door. I grab the handle, but a hand stops me. My eyes travel up to a guard's face..
"Where do you think you are going?" He asks.
"I'm a guest and a friend here. My sister wanted a tour of outside." I say casually.
He crossed his arms, "We are rather busy with preparations." He then stepped closer and came face to face with Kayla, "don't need any little kids running around."
Preparations? It was either for the marriage....or the birthday.
Kayla crossed her arms, "I'm not little."
"Well younger than sixteen will do then." He said as he patted her head. Kayla rolled her eyes, clearly as annoyed as I was with him.
"Come on Kayla let's go." I say and grab my sister's arm.
We march up the steps. Kayla kept looking behind us, wanting to stop, but I kept her moving."It's not fair!" Kayla exclaimed stomping her foot.
I tried my best not to roll my eyes. This was at least the tenth time she has said this. "I'll take you another time, like I've told you."
"Whatever.." She said and walked out of the room.
"Please go get her, I don't want her roaming around." My mom says quietly. I nod and jog out the door.
"Kayla!" I whisper shout, but she's know where in sight.
I speed walk down the hall, turning the corner, but stop at the sound of voices. My body swiftly turns around and I head for the balcony.
Quietly I push open the balcony door and step out. The breeze hitting my hair, making it sway in the wind. Carefully I peek over the balcony railing.
People scattered the ground. Talking about something that I couldn't hear over the wind.
Someone clapped their hands, getting everyone's attention. My eyes drifted over to a figure standing on a small stand, it was Collin.
"Thank you Collin." A voice said enough for me to hear. It was Queen Elizabeth's. She turned and faced everyone, smiling.
"Two days everyone! We have almost all the food prepared. We need to start doing the decorations. Which I have a list of who I want doing all that and other things..."
"Let's give my amazing sister's the best sixteenth ever!" Collin exclaimed, his voice rising over the wind.
Voices broke out in cheers as I stepped away from the balcony. Again, quietly I slipped through the door.
"Now where is she.." I murmur to myself. A small laugh makes me stop in the middle of the hallway. It made me curious and wonder if it was Kayla. I walked towards the laugh. Suddenly I heard a voice that I recognized and I knew it was Kayla.
When I turned the corner she was talking to a boy probably my age or a year younger. He had dark brown hair that framed his face. His long eyelashes covering his green eyes.
I step closer and his eyes immediately lock on me. He raises an eyebrow. Kayla then turns to me and waved.
"Hi Sarah!" She exclaimed. Then she pointed to the boy in front of her. "This is Mason, he works here."
I stand next to my sister and hold out a hand, "I'm Sarah, obviously. Nice to meet you."
Mason shakes my hand and smiles, "Mason, obviously."
We all stand there awkwardly until Mason breaks the silence. "How come you guys are here?"
"Long story, I guess." I say swinging an arm around my sister's shoulder. He smiles and nods back.
"Well I got to go.." He said slowly, rubbing the back of his neck. ".....Nora." He mumbled. I raised an eyebrow at his descending figure.
My hand grabbed Kayla's and I tugged her back to our hallway where our rooms were. "Come on Kayla, mom wants you back."
She sighed, "Hopefully I can hang with him again..."
"When he left he said something about Nora.." I murmur back.
Kayla nods and turns to me, "Yeah he mentioned her a few times. They seem to be really close friends."
"Seems like it."We approach Kayla's room and I wave goodbye as I head back to my room. I stop and open our mom's bedroom door. She looks up and I give her a thumbs up. My mom smiles and I close her door, heading for my room.
~*~
"Im hungry!" Kayla whined as she stumbled into my room. I got up from the couch and walked over to her slumped figure that now sat on my head.
My hand went for her hair and I ruffled it. Her hands flew to her hand and ran her fingers through it.
"I'm sure we can have dinner soon. It's almost 6, and that's usually when we had dinner when I was here last." I say as I sit next to her.
As if on cue, a knock is heard from my door. I get up and open the door slowly. A women stood outside of the room. Her dark brown hair was pulled back in a braid and she wore a welcoming smile on her face.
"You must be Sarah!" She said contently. I nodded slowly, very confused. "The queen has called you, your mother and your sister...for dinner."
"Finally!" Kayla says running up to my side. I quickly give her a stern look telling her to be quiet.
"Of course, we'll be right down."
"okay then." She says and turns to leave, but stops and nods at us. "I'm Lillian by the way."
