The coachmen shut the door and I just stared at it for a moment, before turning towards the window. I looked out and saw Rachel and Sean standing there. Watching me, watch them. They waved and I waved back. I continued to watch them get smaller and smaller until they disappeared.
The carriage strolled down the gravel road. Hitting bumps upon bumps. It felt strange being alone in here. First time was with Collin, Adrianna and Isabella. My last, Rachel and Collin. Now I'm alone.
I stared out the window and watched as we past many oak trees.
We had made it down the gravel path and approached the woods."The west woods right..?" The coachmen asks.
I simply nod my head in response, stepping out onto the dewy grass. It seems like it must have took hours after we reached the trees. Just to find our small cabin in the woods.
My feet felt so sore. My legs felt like jelly. Most of all I was completely exhausted.
"Are you sure you're okay?" My mom kept asking. Kayla clung to her doll like she did when things were normal. I can't believe she still carries it around.
"Yes mom..." I rolled my eyes and looks out the window.
"She was just asking." Kayla said throwing in more wood for the fire.
I watched the flames go up and disappear. Just like all my friends. Their all what seems so far away.
"I think you should get some sleep" My mom grabbed my hand, pulling me towards me and Kayla's room.
"Fine, if it makes you feel that I'm okay." I say and climb into my bed.
She just nods and quietly shuts the door behind her. I stare at the wooden ceiling. With its carving of drawing that I've made in the past.
I love being home, but at the same time I loved being there too. In the castle. With Isabella, Adrianna, Sean, Rachel, Nora and Collin...
The door opens and my eyes dart to the door. I quickly close my eyes seeing Kayla enter. I shift and pretend I'm sleeping.
"I know you are awake Sarah. I'm not dumb. For your information, I'm not little anymore I've grown more. More mature you could say." She says quietly, lifting her chin.
I sit up and stare at her. "Never said you were dumb or little. But just wow.."
"Are you going to sleep?" Kayla asks.
"If you shut up and also I have no choice. Mom wants me to." I answer laying back down.
"Mom." Kayla pauses, "She just misses you. We haven't heard it seen from you in a month. That's hard....."
"I'm sorry. I didn't have a choice. It was either you guys or me. Now goodnight." I say. Leaving me to sleep and hope tomorrow is somewhat normal.
My eyes seem to only have shut a minute or two ago, before I hear Kayla's voice.
She throws a pillow at my face, "Get up sleepy."
I throw it back, hitting her head with perfect aim. "Thanks dopey." Kayla turns and gives me a dirty look. I just smile and walk past her. Things seemed normal...
We both enter the kitchen to see our mom at the counter. She was cutting apples. Red juicy apples. My feet creak against the wooden floor. She turns and looks at Kayla and I.
"Good morning," she says with a nod. Then continues cutting the fruit.
I sit down at the table across from Kayla. Next to her is one seat. There used to be two. Before our Dad was killed. By that....that....I just have to many hateful words that describe how terrible he is.
Kayla notices me staring, "His chair is outside on the porch. We didn't get rid of it."
I nod. Suddenly I catch my mom wiping away a tear. She's still mourning, I'm surprised I am not...
I stood up and walked to the door. My hand on the knob before I was stopped.
"Where are you going young lady?" My mom asked.
I turn around, "Just outside."
"No you stay here. You will not be taken away again." She answers strictly.
"But–"
"No you sit down and eat your breakfast!" She yelled.
Kayla stared silently at her and slowly kept eating. I nod as she impatiently taps her foot.
"Now let's all just have a nice meal...." My mom says quietly.
So much for a normal tomorrow. Now I'm really wishing I was back at the castle.
"Look I'm sorry.." I say.
"No i'm sorry. You can go out for a bit under one condition. Stay close to the house and I mean close." My mom says to me.
I nod. Kayla looks from me to mom but doesn't say a word. I eat the rest of my breakfast and put it in the sink.
I slide to the door and spring out. My leather boots touch the brightly colored grass. I touch the grass with my left hand feeling the coolness.
My eyes look both ways keeping an eye out for anyone. Remembering what happened. What William had said about the woods. Their watching. I grab a rock and hold it in the air.
"If your watching, this rock is you all." I say calmly. I throw the rock. The small rock hits a tree, splitting in half.
I turn and walk up the steps of my porch. My hand grabs the knob. Swinging the door open and it closing behind me as I'm safe inside.
"Is there something wrong?" Kayla asks. She sits by the fire with her little doll next to her.
"I'm fine." I say back.
"Fine?" She laughs quietly. "Sarah, I'm your little sister. What's wrong?"
I sigh, "Okay maybe I just miss them...."
