The carriage strolls away from the castle. I look to one of the window trying to see somebody.
Then I saw someone. Probably in the library, if I'm correct... It looked like Jake. That evil jerk of a prince.
Except it couldn't be him. Could it? I mean we escaped and he was gone....
I blink. Still looking there. It must be him. It looks just like him!
I turn to Sarah and Sean. Sean sat next to me looking out the opposite window. Sarah across from us.
Her face was red and puffy still, from crying. I cried, but the wind wiped it all away. Sean on the other hand. He didn't cry. These people didn't matter as much to him as they did to Sarah and I.
We turned left quickly. The gravel road looked as if it would go on forever. I glimpsed out Sean's window then mine, and saw a village. Full of people. I turned away.
The village reminded me of my family. I miss them so much. The memories flash before my eyes. I remember everything so clearly....It was just a few months ago or so. Everything was normal. I woke up did the morning chores. Then I would race to the valley. Full of all varieties of flowers. It was beautiful.
It happened so quickly. Everything was just about all destroyed. Terrified I ran, hid. Never found my family. Then met Sean.
Now recalling this all again. I feel like I knew Sean before that. He.. he was at the bakery everyday. Every time I went to get bread....
"It's almost time Rachel." Sean says, interrupting my memories. I'm glad he did. I didn't want to see it anymore through my head.
"I know." I sigh. Sarah caught my attention as she looked up.
"You'll be okay, Rachel. You have Sean, and the people here." Sarah says quietly.
Sean nods and I nod just so they know I understand. They are older than me. I'm only thirteen. Well almost fourteen. But still, they are both around Collin's age.
The coachman pulled on the reins to slow the horses down into a trot. My stomach lurches. I'm not ready. I'm not ready, I was never ready. Wasn't ready to loose my family, go to prison, fight, almost die fighting. Finally, and most certainly not ready for some sort of new life!
We stop in front of a small village. The door opens. Sarah looks from Sean to me, to Sean and then stops at me. Her brown eyes are unsettling. She gives me a small sad smile.
"You'll be okay. I'll miss you, Rachel. It's been hectic, but I made some friends who will last forever..." Sarah says, her smile brightens.
Then she looks at Sean giving him a pleading look. Of course Sarah wants him to keep me safe. Even though we are far from the castle in a new village.
He nods and grabs my hand. Dragging me out of the carriage. The coachman slams the door shut and quickly leaves the village. Back down the same long gravel road we came from. I watch it go. I see Sarah waving from the small back window.
Goodbye Sarah..."Ah the newcomers. So we've heard." A voice chuckles from behind. I whirl around to see a man standing there. "The name's Emmett." He holds out his hand.
I hesitate and let Sean go first. He shakes Emmett's hand. Then they both look at me, waiting for me to do the same. I slowly shake his hand.
"Well what do they call you fellas?" He asks.
"Sean. This is Rachel." Sean says for us both. I slightly wave. I'm safe. I shouldn't be scared...
"Well we are going to find you guys a nice family." Emmett says walking towards the houses.
New family? I've already discussed this in my head. I wasn't ready. Never will I be ready. Sean started after him, but stopped when I wasn't behind him.
He faced me, "Aren't you coming Rachel?" I stood there with a straight face. Sean sighed, "I know it's hard, but we are safe here. Away from the bad things."
I trudge past him muttering, "Nothing was bad with them."
I know he knows who I'm talking about. Well there was bad things, but things that go wrong make life more exciting. Some of the time.
Sean walks next to me, "Fine. I'll just leave you be. Never should've helped you out. You're younger probably would've died sooner or later. I'm older more experienced and would survive."
I stop shocked at what he just said. Was this Sean or someone else? The Sean I was with before wasn't like this. He took me with him knowing how bad it was. I lost my parents, he lost his parents and probably his sisters. I don't know who he is anymore.
Emmett stopped ahead of us. He stared at a house a little bigger than the rest of them. The wooden village house had two floors. The roof seemed a darker color than the rest. It made me wonder why.
"Here it is." He said, "This home is where me, my wife and two other girls live that we found."
I watched Sean's eyes light up, "Where did you find them?"
Emmett turned to him. "There was a village raided. We found them outside the village with a fire going. Thought something was burning so I checked it out. Told us their story and we took them to keep them safe."
My eyes widened as well. "Was anyone else from that raided village?"
"No. Not that I know of.." Emmett's answer made my face drop. They probably were gone. "Now, let's bring you inside. Shall we?"
Sean ran in after Emmett and I just walked as slowly as I could inside. What was the point? Sean had one. His sisters were probably in there. He had a family, mine was gone.
When I got in I saw two girls that looked just like Sean. They had dark brown hair, and tan skin. Compared to me, my skin was plain old peach loaded with freckles.
The one girl looked up, then nudged her sister. When the other one looked up she gasped.
"Sean?" They said together. Sean ran to them and squeezed them so tight they might have dissolved into dust. Great. I'm a loner...
"Annie! Lily! It's really you guys!" Sean said so excitedly. He literally jumped up in down still hugging them. Then he let go and looked at them.
One of them looked at me. She had calm hazel eyes. Different from the other one and Sean. "Who's that?" She asked.
"Lily, this is Rachel. My friend." Sean answers.
"Oh. Hi Rachel, I'm Lily." Lily holds out her hand. I take it and shake it.
"Nice to meet you." I say quietly.
The other just waves, "I'm Annie." I nod and wave back.
The older woman shakes Sean and my hand. "Caroline. You guys will like it here..."
Sean nods his head quickly.
I don't nod my head. Caroline was wrong. I will never like it here...
Never ever.
