I stretched across my desk with a contented sigh.
Eri, in the meantime, was doing a little tap dance on her desk.
“Oh, yeah~!” she sang. “Finals are over~ I got an A~.”
“Shut up, Hitsugaya!” the class ordered.
“Well fine then, sour-pants,” she sneered, imitating Kathy from Harvest Moon: Animal Parade before plopping down in her seat.
“Um… I think you got them mixed up, Eri-chan…” I smiled.
“Eh?”
“I think it’s suppose to be ‘sour-puss’ and ‘smarty-pants’…”
She grinned. “But ‘sour-pants’ fit so much better, don’cha think?”
I smiled. I had to admit that yes, it did.
The teacher clapped once, loudly. “Settle down, class. I know you’re happy that finals are over. I also know that some of you are unhappy about your grades. I also know that I will be seeing some of you after school to do make-up work…” she eyed the five of the poorest students who tried to hide under their desks. I guess they failed.
“However, the rest of you passed. So I will not be seeing you until school starts again in the fall.”
The bell rang and all of us gathered our books in a rush.
“Have a good summer vacation, class!” our teacher called after the frenzy.
I managed to slip out in the first half of the class. Eri tried to catch up with me, but I was too focused on getting to my lockers to heed her calls.
Suddenly, I was snatched from the hall and smuggled into a room. I let out a cry, but my captor’s hand was covering my mouth. My eyes, however, were open. The room that I was dragged into was dark. My eyes were slow to adjust, and when they did, I could only make out the odd shape here and there.
The silence was broken by muffled protests appearing when the door was opened. I looked down at the sliver of light that flooded into the room to see a tall man dragging a girl into it. The door shut, and the girl was dropped onto the floor with a thud.
“Think you can capture me!” she growled. “Well, you’ll soon find out that—ow!”
I couldn’t hold back my grin as another thud came after my best friend’s rant.
“Get off me, you oaf! Wait a minute… Hikaru!”
The lights were switched on and I was released. I fell in a heap on the carpeted floor and looked up to see Hikaru grinning at me. “I’m afraid that my twin has you,” he chuckled at Eri.
“Whatever! I’ll kill you all!”
“Now, now, calm down, Eri-sama,” Tamaki crooned. “They were only following orders.”
“Your orders!” Eri spat. “You could have told us, you know.”
“But that would be too easy,” Kyoya smiled, not looking up from his clipboard. “Tamaki. I have booked the flight for next Tuesday. Will that be alright?”
The leader of this freak show nodded. “Hm, yes,” he smiled. “I do think so. Hikaru, Koaru, did you do it?”
They saluted. “Sure did, boss,” they chorused.
“Did what,” Eri demanded.
“Check your bags!” Honey giggled.
We did as we were told and opened our book bags. Inside were our books, yes, but there was a new little book. Curiously, we pulled them out and scanned across the front. That got us even more curious, so we opened it up.
