Devyn
I nervously peer my eyes around the room in interest as my therapist by the name of Mrs. DiCarlo gets her things together for me. I guess I could say she's a bit unprofessional but I don't want to Judge her based on a few little mistakes that had just first happened. I for one don't think first impressions are everything because people are way too multifaceted to just come up with an opinion on someone when they first meet them. Humans have depth and many sides to them. Hopefully this unprofessional behavior goes away.
"So, I'm Mrs. DiCarlo and you must be Devyn Burgos." Exhaling softly through her slightly opened mouth, her red lips then form together as she reads whatever is on the clipboard in front of her. She sticks her hand out for me to shake which I gladly do while nodding my head for confirmation but she should already know that.
"Yeah, that's me." I speak boringly, rolling my eyes sitting onto the cushioned piece of furniture that's inclined about sixty degrees facing towards her. I find no comfort in being here, only feeling bothered by the coldness of the room. I don't even think the temperature of the thermostat is low, it's just my entirety feeling gelid at the moment. I dreaded this day the whole entire week even though I spent my hard time planning for it. I always have to be prepared for anything and everything; I even decided to dress nice on my first day here because the memory of a woman with brown hair and dark eyes keeps haunting me with that old saying.
"Never let yourself out the house if you looking like you fell out a dumpster."
Shivering at the thought of her, I bring myself back into reality, facing the rigid four walls surrounding me along with a woman that has a voluminous Afro. Holding onto the chair nervously, I wait until she stops reading to actually say something and explain what the procedures of this weekly thing will be. "So, like I said before. I'm Mrs. DiCarlo and I'll be working with you for the next few months as your therapist." She states firmly. Placing her clipboard to the desk beside her, she claps her hands together. "Now, most people think of therapy as like a treatment or something that's only for crazy people or people that had bad childhoods and are damaged goods but it's not. "
"You're probably thinking the same thing by the Look you're giving me and the things your father has recorded down of you saying and responding to certain situations that have occurred over the past year and when he recently brought of the idea of coming-"
"That's the only reason why he brought me here though." I interrupt her, giggling bitterly to myself. "He obviously thinks I'm damaged or emotionally unstable to the point where he can't do anything about it. He probably thinks I need serious help and need someone to talk about it with. All I want is medicine, not to tell anyone stuff they don't have a right to know."
Spreading her lips for air to travel in and out her mouth, she widens her eyes at me shaking her head. "Okay, so I see we have a smart-Alec who always wants to be right in every situation and never wants to admit when they're wrong or be respectful when respect is needed. We're going to have to set some rules down when it's your session." She smiles to herself before gazing up at me, stamping her brown eyes into mine.
"Alright, so first thing first, don't ever interrupt me or dare to talk over me when I speak or initiate anything first. Just like you don't like people not listening to you, I don't either Devyn." She annunciates all the sounds and letters of each word which draws interest in me. "I know you don't want to be here and all, but what you're not going to do is be disrespectful and not try. You're going to have to cooperate with me until I see some improvement." She holds her hands out explaining trying to find some compromise between us. "Also don't cuss here and that's my last rule for right now." Taken aback by her words, I suck in a tight breath not wanting to say anything else after that.
