Devyn
I didn't know what to wear to the car wash because the weather is slightly chilly right now since It's November. I just slipped on sweatpants and a skimp jacket to keep me in a safe space. I knew we'd be working extremely hard which meant sweat would most likely be on everyone so I didn't dress too heavy but I also knew November is unexpectedly wishy washy when it comes to weather so I put a jacket on. My dad thought it'd be good for me to go out again due to the fact I've been locking myself in my room as soon as I got home from school for peace and quiet or after I came from therapy. That's if I luckily had a session of course because work would always be in the way and my dad says money comes before that. He claims to want me interacting like I normally did but honestly, how could I?
"Alright, so I'm picking you up at seven?" He inquires for the hundredth time. I blink slowly at the receptiveness and nod my head sarcastically before giggling discreetly. "I told you like three times seven. It's seven. You pick me up at seven. It hasn't changed yet." I laugh.
"I'm just making sure I heard right and I'm not leaving you stranded alone while everybody else is gone." He takes his hat off holding his hands up defensively. Tilting my head to the side, I squint my medium sized almonds at him unimpressed. "I'm sure nobody is going leave me by myself. Somebody's going to want to be generous and take me home. You and these fantasies again." I shake my head.
"Hey, it's the thought that counts. It shows that I at least care." Shrugging my shoulders, I could slightly agree with that. As I'm reaching for the door handle, he grabs me by my arm with a gentle grasp. Finding his brown eyes, I stare into them blankly wondering what he wants. "Hey, you didn't say bye."
"Oh, bye." I speak quickly before turning around to pull onto the handle. He prevents me from doing so again and this time, I sigh calmly. "Give me a hug." His eyes soften at me. Raising my eyebrows, I become caught off guard by his amorous words. Hesitantly with shaking arms, I near towards him wrapping my arms around him not reaching all the way. He reacts accordingly to the gesture. Awkwardness, discomfort, and uncertainty. I've barely had physical contact with him since that breakdown I had in June and it's now November. The intimacy is new to me—almost like taking baby steps again and learning small algorithms.
He releases me from a hug then places his lips on my forehead before faintly smiling. "Okay, now you can go and I won't stop you again." I chuckle at his words, grabbing onto door with my small purse that crosses over my chest. "Wait!"
Slamming my feet around and swinging my body towards the car again, I rest my elbows over the descending windows. "You said you weren't going to stop me again?" He's beginning to to annoy me.
"Did you remember to take your medicine today?" One mention of medicine and I back away from the car, irritated by the word. My father began to remind me of taking everything I'm supposed to just as Tanya does and it's quite repetitive hearing the same words being told at me. Like I told Mrs. DiCarlo, hearing it over and over again makes me not want to take them or drown myself in all of them but I have to always remember what she told me her past patients. Hopefully, I'll be able to not abuse them.
"Oh no. I forgot!" I exclaim, snapping back into reality. Feeling along my pockets, I snatch the noisy bottle with the excited pills creating resonance as they beat against the barrier. "I can just take them in there right now. I promise." Sighing to himself, he wraps his fingers along the steering wheel tapping gently and he shrugs. Knowing what that means, I back away from the car waving to him heading into KFC for a quick deed.
"What you doing here so early, Devyn? You don't even work today." As soon as I walk in, Shantelle's horrendous voice screeches all the way across the store. My eye twitches as a natural reaction and I ignore her, disregarding any communication due to her frequent harassing she does to me on a daily basis.
