Sunday mornings. The birds tweeting and gracefully singing at the windowsill. The aroma of waffles, pancakes, and everything sweet wafting from the kitchen. The morning sun greeting the day with a smile. Alexander in my arms.
Although, today he wasn't. Instead, he frantically packing his things.
"Alex?" I mutter, groggily rubbing my eyes. "What are you doing?" I ask as I sit upright in my bed.
"Packing!" He replied with a wide smile. He lightly chuckled and I rolled my eyes. I leapt off of the bed and walked over to him. I kissed him gently on the head before walking out to a spread of delicious breakfast foods laid on the dining table.
"Alexander?" I asked, observing the different pancakes and waffles on the table. "What is this?"
"Breakfast," He bluntly replied as he heaved a suitcase into the living room. "Thought we'd get hungry on the way south, so I made us a heavy breakfast."
"You made all of this?" I asked, sitting down in a plastic chair. "You get better and better each day."
"Perks of being my boyfriend," He grinned which made me blush. "Eat up. We don't want to be late."
"Have you ever gone a road trip before?" I ask him as I serve myself a steaming hot plate of delicious chocolate chip pancakes.
"No," He answers, "The only traveling I ever did was from the Caribbean to New York. I've never really seen a mountain up close before in real life."
"I went years ago with Peggy," I explain, "It's breathtaking. You'll love it."
"I'm sure I will. Eat up," he kindly orders as he trudges the suitcases outside into my car. I sit idly eating my breakfast.
"It's 7:45!" Alexander yelled from outside, "Let's get moving!"
I smiled and chuckled as I laced up my combat boots and threw on my jacket. I stepped outside into the almost Winter air.
"You sure you have everything?" I mockingly ask. Alexander stares at the copious amount of bags in our car as if he was running over a mental checklist.
"Hey," I calmly coax, putting my hands on his shoulders, "It's okay. We're prepared. We'll be safe."
"It's not that. I'm wondering if I packed extra underwear." We both laugh and I quickly kiss him on the cheek before jumping into the car.
"To the Schuyler Dorm," I whisper under my breath as I ignite the engine.
"To the Schuyler Dorm," Alexander repeats, giving me a warm smile.

"Okay, role call!" Angelica yells frantically as everyone packed their bags in the RV.
"We've already done a role call three times, sweetie," Eliza giggles, rubbing Angelica's arms protectively. "We're all here."
"You know how much of a control freak I am," Angelica laughs, "Everything has to be perfect."
"And it will," Alexander assures her as he closed the back storage door of the RV. "Everyone ready?"
The gang cheered back in response. We all boarded the RV and took our places inside. Lafayette and Hercules did an excellent job with interior.
"Who's driving?" Angelica asks.
Hercules dangles the keys in his left hand as a reply. He slides into the front seat along with Lafayette who was in the passenger. Everyone else crowded in the back space.
The drive there was quite uneventful. Eliza, Alexander, and I quizzed each other on the different founding fathers of America. A fun fact from Alexander: Lin-Manuel Miranda apparently had a secret love affair with Anthony Ramos that's still be uncovered today! Fucking gayyyyy.
Before we knew it, we had arrived at the camp site. Everyone paraded our of the RV and onto the dirt ground.
We set up our tents. Barely half of us actually knew how to pitch a tent, and Alexander had to help every single one of us. Damn, he gets hotter by the minute.
"Fuck, I'm thirsty," Hercules curses, wiping sweat from his forehead. Lafayette bit his lip as he stared at him.
"There should be water bottles in the back," Angelica informed him, sticking her head up from a pile of sticks and tent cloth.
Hercules nods in response and treks to the rear of the RV. He rushes back out in a panic.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"We forgot the water bottles at home."
"FUCK!" Angelica screamed in rage as she stomped her foot down.
"It's alright, Angelica," Alexander tried to ease her senses. "I'm going to go to the nearest stop and get us a bunch of water bottles, okay?"
Angelica shakily nods and Hercules throws the keys in his direction. He catches it with one hand. As Alexander climbed up the stairs of the RV, I tugged at his hoodie.
"Should I go with you?" I ask him with pleading eyes
"Hm, I think you should stay here. It seems that no one else knows how to pitch a tent." He smiles and cautiously observes the area. Everyone was too busy to notice us, so he surprised me with a quick kiss on the lips.
"I'll be back before you can even say 'I'm a closeted gay!'"
"Shut up," I chuckle as I punch him in the arm.
"I'll see ya," Alexander smiles as he closes the doors of the RV. I watch as he drives away. I walk over to Angelica and help her set up her tent, as she obviously is having problems doing it herself.
"Thanks," she pants as she doubles over from exhaustion.
"No problem," I smile and she tugs my arm so her lips are barely touching my ear.
"I so saw that kiss."
I pulled away in shock.
"How the hell do you see everything?"
"I just do."
"L'amis!" Lafayette shrieks as he sticks his cell in the air. "There is service!"
We all sighed in relief as we all slipped our phones out and headed over to where Lafayette and Hercules were standing behind a tree.
"There is service!" Eliza gasps, scrolling through her phone.
"Wait," Angelica stops, "guys. We're on a camping trip. We should put away our phones."
Everyone reluctantly slips their phones back into their pockets until a loud notification is heard from all of them almost at unison. An Amber alert. (if ya don't know what that is, it's basically an alert you get on your phone that says if there's danger in ur area or nahh)
"What is that?" Eliza frantically asks, peering at her phone.
"There was a car crash on highway 64," Thomas Paine reads off of his screen.
"The same highway we drove on," I observed, my heart beating erratically.
It couldn't mean- no. Alexander is safe."It involved an 18 wheeler pickup truck and an RV," Hercules' voice trailed off on the last few words. No, no, no, no! This cannot be fucking happening.
"Three are confirmed dead," Eliza chokes out, "One is severely injured."
A scarring image of a bloodied Alexander laying limp on the side of the highway flashes in my mind, taking me aback. I shiver and fall back into Angelica's arms and she struggles to hold me up. My legs are numb, my entire body is numb.
"No," I mutter to myself as the pain starts to seep in. "No."
Eliza leans back on the tree stump and sinks down to the dirt as tears slip down her face.
"Alexander..." I mutter and apart from the muffled harsh sobbing and screaming, it's the only raw thought I can compose.
Alexander.
