Hello Diary,
I was very lucky to have taken that energy boosting potion Almira made for me. I think it was the only reason I was able to outrun my father's fire and spells. His anger and frustration with me was building as I scampered down the stairwell ahead of him. I knew that if I stayed inside the Palace I would end up getting trapped, so I had to head for the main doors on the first floor. My problem was that my father can move down the stairs much quicker than I can. But an idea crossed my mind, so I quickly curled myself up into a tight ball. With the scales and spikes on my back and neck I felt pretty safe, so I closed my eyes and started rolling.
As I started to pick up speed down the stairway I shouted "Berior!" And turned myself into a rolling spiked shield.
I heard my father curse then I felt the heat from his flames but was quickly rolling out of his range and downwards. "RUINAR!!!" His evil bellowing voice had never sounded so scary.
Before I knew it I was rolling into the main hall. I started to lose my speed so I released my shield then uncurled myself and started running again. The huge entry door ahead of me was propped open. Outside, it was daybreak.
I was almost there, a few more feet to go, when I heard my father's angered voice screaming a spell. I tried to dive forward as my father's purple lightning bolt shot toward me. I was not fast enough.
The bolt bounced across the hall until it struck me in the back, hitting me right on my spine. I roared in agony as the bolt caused me to go flying forwards with a bright flash of purple light.
I went tumbling down the front Palace steps head first. I felt a numbing and tingling pain as I tried to catch myself with my legs. I felt stupid for not having blocked with a shield. Now I could be paralyzed and at his mercy.
I finally stopped tumbling and tried to stand up so I could keep running. I stumbled over my own legs and tail because my two rear legs had been paralyzed from the attack. I turned my head to see my father emerging from the Palace doors. He had a glaring grin on his evil face.
I could not run, I was stuck as he approached and snarled in anger above me. He snatched me up and dangled me by my tail, looking me over scornfully.
"They made me do it father..." I sobbed, trying to act innocent. "They said it would only take away your magic, not harm you." I cried as I dangled in his talons helplessly.
His red eyes narrowed in hatred. "You helped them take away my magic? My magic is what keeps this Palace safe. How could you betray me like this? I shared my magic with you!"
"I am sorry...I didn't know. I am just... afraid." I said sobbing. It wasn't all a lie, he did terrify me. I also hated crying in front of my father, but I could not stop the tears from dripping down my nose.
"That is the last mistake you will ever make, Ruinar, son of a slut!" He snarled at me in fury.
I then could feel the power of his mind forcing it's way into my own. I tried desperately to build up my mental walls, but he was far too strong for me. Knowing what was going to happen next, I closed my eyes and waited for the end.
"Ballunialueth," Gaelon snarled the spell menacingly... Nothing happened.
My heart was racing now. How had I not been killed by the death spell? I blinked in realization. The potion had worked. My father was cut off from the use of such a powerful spell. Not only had it worked, but it saved my life.
Then I realized that my survival was still hanging in the balance. My father snarled again, realizing his magic had failed him. He roared loudly and it echoed across the entire courtyard and plains beyond. It was the fearsome roar of an angry dragon king.
"You may have taken my magic, but you will still die!" He screamed at me.
Everything else happened in the blink of an eye... First, I heard another booming and mighty roar. This one came from above us. I did not have to see him to know who could produce such a roar to combat my father's. It was Cand.
Second, my father glanced up with his eyes going wide in shock and amazement. He huffed and glared at me one last time with one glowing red eye, then he threw me as hard as he could.
I felt myself rushing through the air backwards and then I yelped in utter pain as I crashed into the wall at a fast rate of speed. I could feel my body crushing itself and a wave of pain swam over all my senses until I could feel nothing else.
I yelped again as I crumpled to the floor, unable to move. The last thing I saw before blacking out was Cand's blue shimmering body swoop in for the attack. His band of 20 or so dragons swooped in right afterwards, all of them crashing right into Gaelon.
I smiled painfully as the last thing I remembered was my father roaring in pain and surprise. It was a bitter sweet feeling as I passed out from pain.
(Woohoo this was an intense chapter. Above is a song that I love and fits well with the mood of the story and Ruinar if you want to listen to it. It is the song Enemies by Shinedown. Thanks so much for keeping up with my story. It is coming close to an end. Please vote if your liking it. : ))
