Hello Diary,
I believe that it is sometime around midnight. Here, there is never a time when everyone sleeps. Some of the unicorns are up at night, others in daytime. That means that if I want to leave unnoticed I will have to try out my own invisibility spell.I knew that currently, my father was sleeping. His snores could be heard vibrating off the walls. This may be my only chance to get that damn book of magic away from him. I saw what page he had read from for that spell. All I had to do was get it, use the spell, and run for the Ash Mountains.
It sounded like such a simple a basic plan in my head, but that was the problem. It was too simple. What was I going to do if my father came after me, or Tinnu?
My legs may be faster than my father on foot, but the rest of these creatures were built to run. I didn't stand much chance if the spell would not hide me. Not to mention that in this environment my father would surely use his wings, therefore be much faster than little old me.
But I was confident the spell would work. If not, I had other spells to aide my retreat... Now I just needed the book.
The last time I had sneaked up on my father while he was sleeping he had been heavily drugged. This time he was not. It would be very dangerous, but I had to take the chance.
I knew he had no magic wards up around his personal chamber. He trusted his two guards to warn him of danger. When I got there however, the guards were not at their post.
I slowly approached his room, knowing that if the guards were away, Tinnu was here with him tonight.
I gulped but continued for the sake of my ultimate goal, even though it was now twice as dangerous.
For the first time in my life I found myself hoping that the two of them were busy distracting one another, or both passed out in exhaustion.
I could not risk detection so I did not use my mind to sense the room. I just very quietly opened the door and slipped inside, making sure to leave it cracked open just enough for me to dart out again.
I blinked into the darkness. Luckily, beside me on a table there was a faintly burning candle that was almost out from lack of attention.
I held my paw out toward it and whispered faintly, "Valundin." Then the candle slowly flickered back to life.
I could not help but let my jaw drop when I saw the two powerful creatures sleeping, tangled up with each other.
It was really hard not to admire my father in his unicorn body. He seemed so much different, somehow more regal. I had to force myself to turn and look around the room instead.
Then I spotted it, the dark magic book. It was right beside them on the floor as if they had been reading a spell from it just before... Whatever happened here.
I rushed over and snatched it up, then turned and bolted out the door. I could hear Tinnu make a groaning sound as I left but I was not about to wait and see if she had woken up.
I ran as fast as my four legs would allow but had to stop by some candlelight so I could read the spell. I wasn't going to get much farther without it.
After all the rumors I have heard about how demons control the magic in these books, I was not about to go reading random spells, no matter how curious I feel.
I looked around to see if any prying eyes were near, then satisfied it was safe, I opened the book and started flipping through the pages rapidly. I was afraid that if I were to linger on a page too long something bad might happen.
I stopped on a page that suddenly stood out to me. It had a lot of words I could not read, but there was a diagram of a magical shield around a castle. I smiled to myself and then kept flipping to find what I would need right now.
The shield spell would take time for me to master, lots of time and more knowledge of the Ancient Language. It at least felt good knowing I had the tool I would need when the time was right.
I stopped again when I got to the recognized page number. The Invisibility spell was much more complicated than I expected. There were different variations of it. Since I wanted only to use it on myself, I tried to recognize the simple words for 'self' or 'me' on the page.
I heard a loud whinny come from somewhere else in my father's castle and my heart started to race in fear. I did not know who it was but I had a bad feeling.
"Berondale Ielleg," I said softly into the night.
I felt the power of the spell hit me like a tidal wave and I let out a gasp. I then ruffled my wings and realized, I could not see them. The spell had worked, I was now invisible.
I did not hesitate after that. I took the black book and slipped outside into the dark night. I ran right past one Gaurd, then another.
After I realized my little plan was actually working, I bolted as fast as I could run. I felt the spell eating away at my energy and I had to make it to the mountains before I could no longer sustain it.
I can only hope it will be a while before my father or Tinnu realize that the book is MIA. My father will kill me for taking his magic, Tinnu may too.
(AN: Ruinar is on the run. Do you think he can get to the mountains and find his way through to safety? Will his magic last long enough to keep him hidden? Do you think he will run into any trouble? Next chapter will be up soon. Thanks for reading.)
