Hello diary,
Today I blew it and let's just say I am lucky to be alive to write about it...I was minding my own business, quietly reading a book my father assigned, when his adviser strutted into the room. The big slate blue dragon paused and looked toward me. His blue eyes in a glare as he took me in. I was not sure, but I felt like he somehow knew I had taken that book from him that day. I was too afraid to meet his terrifying stare.
He snorted and turned to address my father, going back to ignoring me like before. "King Gaelon, I have come to discuss a private affair with you. Shouldn't you send the whelp away?"
The king snorted and started to laugh, but seemed to ignore my quivering at the side of the room. I was terrified. Both of these two huge dragons could find any number of reasons to kill me.
"He stays, I am watching him closely. He is getting to close to Cand. If you wish to keep this private then speak to me in the Ancient Language." My father's voice bellowed.
Kram snarled and nodded, shifting his weight with unease. Still ignoring me, the blue dragon began to speak in a strange tongue. I could barely pick up anything. Their use of the Ancient Language was far more advanced than I thought.
What I could make out was that Kram was actually concerned about his sister's health. I think he was asking Gaelon to give her some time off.
Gaelon's red eyes glared at his adviser in disgust. He also spoke harshly in the Ancient Language. I was able to make out one word here and there. He used words like kingdom, mine, brother, and traitor. By his expression I could tell he was saying Kram was a traitor for asking, even as Eira's brother.
Kram snarled and I looked up toward him in time to see a tear on the blue dragons face. I suddenly realized he probably had no idea she was pregnant. She and Cand had been keeping it a huge secret. Kram had probably noticed his sister was not acting like herself. I can not remember how far along she is, or how long females are pregnant for. I will have to ask Cand if I ever get to see him after what I did next.
Gaelon growled the word traitor again in the Ancient Language and I could feel the tension building in the air like static. My emotions were building too, and I was not sure if I was feeding off Kram or not, but he gave me a strange look as I started to step forward and place myself right between the two of them, even as tiny as I was in comparison.
"Before you ask how I even know what you two are arguing about I have to say this..." I then turned and looked straight up at my father. His eyes began to widen in shock and curiosity.
"Please listen to him father. Eira is one of your finest warriors and giving her a break is far better than loosing her for good isn't it? Besides it can not possibly take that long to have a baby and then get back on your feet again."
Both of the huge brutes were frozen by the words of a tiny red dragon whelp. For a brief moment I felt pretty proud of myself. My feelings quickly changing to dread, horror, and fear as Kram gave me an evil smile and my father's eyes narrowed in anger.
"You...you are learning the Ancient Language behind my back?" He stammered in fury.
I gulped and slowly nodded, sealing my fate.
"O...only a little. Being around you, how could I not?" I attempted to sound innocent, but my father's deep snarl made me start to shake in utter fear. I closed my eyes, not wanting to see what fate had in store for me.
Another menacing snarled filled the air above my head, probably from Kram. Then I heard a loud thud beside me, but I was too afraid to peek and see who it had been.
"Wait, don't..." Kram's voice cried. "The boy has proven to be a useful spy, my Lord. How else would we have found out Eira is with child?"
Awkwardness started to fill the room. Gaelon was snarling angrily and I am still shocked he never let loose an agonizing spell on me. The huge black dragon king took a few steps back. I could tell he was staring at me even with my eyes shut.
"Ruinar..." He hesitated and the whole while I was trembling at his mercy. The way he said my name was terrifying. "You seem to be way to smart for your age. Did you know that I have a law that states no warriors are allowed to mate? Clearly Cand and Eira have broken my law, yet you are asking me to let it slide by like nothing? Let's not also forget the laws you have broken by reading my books. The Ancient Language is very dangerous, not to be learned by a runt like you."
I do not know why, but I suddenly felt a rush of anger flood through my entire body from talons, to tail, to nose. I could not control myself.
"Listen here father!" I shouted, spitting some tiny flames in my anger. "There is something precious to you that you will never see again if you let Eira or her baby die." I then paused to gather my thoughts, but continued before I lost my nerve. The next line should hit him hard, if nothing else.
"Tryg Sadron, Ballanur Gorthdegir!" I shouted up at him with an emphasizing snort. In the Ancient Language it means 'trust me, death will find you' at least that's what I thought it meant. By the look on my father's face I am sure I was correct.
Just over my shoulder I could hear the blue Kram starting to laugh. "So textbook," he snorted in his smile. A snarl and glare from the king quieted him.
"Father, all I ask is that you please let Cand and Eira have the one thing they have always wanted, their own child. If you swear to not punish them for this, then the thing you lost will be returned to you. Otherwise I will make sure it is forever out of your reach."
I was not even sure that he knew one of his magic books was missing, but it was my only chance to save the family I truely cared about. Lucky for me, he did not kill me, just sent me off saying he would tend to my outburst later. I guess he wanted to deal with Kram first.
At least now I could actually have a chance to hide the black book somewhere, in case he decided to just come take it from me. My only worry now is, what the hell is he going to do with me?
