Hello Diary,
The very next day I was visited by the new king himself. I could still barely move but when he entered the room he came straight to me. He stood where I could see him clearly, including the worried look in his golden eyes."Ruinar, I am so sorry that it took me this long to come see you. Cyra has been filling me in on your condition. It seems that my visits have had bad timing while you were resting. I am glad to see that your mind and will are still strong. I never had the chance to thank you. That lightning spell caught Gaelon off guard and helped me get the upper hand."
I tried to smile at my new King. This felt right. Cand deserved this chance. He would lead the dragons to peace with the other clans of Angoleth.
"How could I not help. All I have seen in my short life is Angoleth falling apart. I am just sorry I could not get the entire potion into him. If I had then right now he would be dead." I said with a hint of my sadness showing in my voice.
Cand moved closer and nuzzled me carefully with his nose. "Please try not to blame yourself for what happened. I never wanted to get you involved, but Kram insisted you were the best one to sneak in and get close to him. I never knew he was forcing you to use that horrible spell of death. I should never have let him get close to you. The problem that weighs on me now, is that I can not go back and change it."
When he pulled away slightly so he could look in my eyes, I could see the tears in his.
"Do not worry about me, my king. I have heard rumors that a little healing magic could fix me up right. I could learn that spell, it is very useful for all of us. I want to be of use to you, now that you are king." I said with confidence.
Cand suddenly snarled and shook his head. "No... I will not have you learning any more of that horrible magic. Look Ruinar, to keep Angoleth safe from another Gaelon I have had to put up a new, stronger law against any dragon who uses dark magic. You will not use magic any longer, otherwise I would have to exile you or kill you."
"But...Cyra said it was the only way I might ever fly, maybe even walk. Cand, not all magic is bad. I know first hand what the pull of magic feels like. It is different for different types of spells. Healing and shield spells are positive energy."
He shook his head sternly and snarled at me again. "No, no more magic boy. It all leads down the path of darkness. You are way too young to understand it. I am sorry but I can not let you follow the path your father went down." His stern words hurt me but I understood where he stood. For anyone to regain trust the magic would have to be completely gone.
Suddenly a thought crossed my mind as I remembered Cand himself being healed by the healing spell. "Wait, have you seen Kram? He could heal me. He already knows the spell."
Cand snorted and shrugged. "Kram is a mysterious one. He was eager to help us chase Gaelon away but disappeared when the action began. No one has seen him since, not even his sister. My guess is, he wanted to wait it out so he could still take Gaelon's side if things went south. Kram is a survivor. Frankly I wanted to keep him around as my own adviser, but, a new king needs a new assistant. I was hoping that you would be up for the task, Ruinar. You have some knowledge of the Ancient Language, which is important for a royal assistant."
I was shocked. A tiny whelp like me with such a big job in the Palace? I did not even know what to do to be a royal adviser.
"Sir, what if I do not recover?" I asked worriedly.
Cand smiled and nuzzled my neck again. "That won't make any difference to me. I will still want your skills at my service. What do you say?"
I looked up at him with tears of both pain and joy in my eyes. "I will do my best to serve you my king." I said with a smile, trying to bow with my neck.
Suddenly a rumbling roar filled the hallway outside. Cand and I both got startled. He backed away from me and turned to face the doorway. A snarl emerged from his throat as he stared at the hospital door.
Suddenly the door burst open and a huge dragon bolted into the room, looking all around like he was in a hurry. At first I thought it was Gaelon here to attack us, but then realized the scales were not black, but blue.
"Ahh, there you are...King Cand!"
It was Kram, showing up as if he had known we were just talking about him. It was very creepy. He had a look of scorn in his blue Sapphire eyes as he moved closer to us. The raged dragon did not yet notice me on the hospital bed.
"Though, I do not feel right calling you king when Gaelon is...Still Alive!" He snarled toward Cand.
The blue and golden king shrugged and then narrowed his eyes at his rival. "You do not have to call me king because you are being exiled to the Forbidden Desert. It will take effect right after your sister gives birth. Spend these last moments with your loved ones. Dark magic will no longer be tolerated in my kingdom."
Cand's words were harsh but heartfelt. Kram snarled but slowly backed off, not wanting a fight. "You are making a big mistake KING. Magic can do many wonderful things..."
Then all of a sudden my entire body was lifted up into the air like I was a floating ghost. Kram had his eyes focused on me while Cand had a look of shock and scorn on his own face.
Kram was using magic to levitate me, I could tell by his focus. Then he gave me a faint smile and winked. "This will probably hurt a bit," He whispered at me. Then I was holding my breath through the pain as he shouted "Gara Cunar!"
I felt my body quiver and flail as the healing spell began to do it's work on my crushed limbs.
(AN: Yay he is healed!!! I guess it is true that magic is good for some things... Next chapter coming soon. Thanks for reading, please vote.)
