Hello Diary,
Tinnu's pegasus scouts have announced that there are four dragons in all. Two red, a green, and a blue in the lead.Gaelon grinned and cleared his throat. "Watch closely, I am about to show you how magic makes you stronger. I will use a spell of invisibility to not only hide us from sight, but also from being heard. It is a very powerful spell, so do not try to cast it on your own."
He was looking back and forth between both Tinnu and me. He knew we both craved magic, longed for more of it. I only hope I am not as terrible as the two of them.
Tinnu gave him a wink and confident nod. I fluttered my wings to show I agreed. He smiled and turned to examine his surroundings, preparing himself for his spell. He then pulled a small black book from under a fold in his right wing.
He grinned as Tinnu and I both quivered at the sight of it, then began to flip through the pages, looking for a particular spell. He stopped and chuckled as he found what he had been looking for.
He then started to say the spell out loud but for some reason I could not understand the words in the phrase he used.
I was left with my mouth gaping in admiration as a glittery cloud formed in his open paw. He continued to chant another phrase in the Ancient Language and then the cloud burst up into the air, forming an opaque force field around the entire black castle. The invisibility spell was completed.
My father coughed, then closed the book and turned to look at us again.
Tinnu flicked her tail and stomped a hoof as she admired the shield of invisibility above us, high over our heads. "Impressive my Lord, most impressive as always." She said in admiration.
I was grinning from horn to horn and could not help but ask, "Is the area shield spell similar to this one?"
My father smiled and his red eyes narrowed on me. "It is not quite as complicated to just keep things out, but it has a similar behavior when active." He started to look me up and down suspiciously. "You have proven to be able to handle some strong magic... I may be able to teach you some defensive magic. Just tell me... Why are you so interested in an area shield? You have no one to protect."
I felt a bit of anger starting to burn inside me. I did have people who I wanted to protect and go home to, maybe sometime soon. I have no friends at all here. I always have to watch my back.
"It is a valuable spell, regardless of who I use it on. I can even help you protect this place. It would give you a break from the constant drain on your power." I finally said after calming myself.
Tinnu snorted and started to laugh. "I already share that burden with him. My specialty is shield magic," She snickered with pride.
"So what?" I snarled at her.
Gaelon snarled at us. Tinnu looked at him and gave him a loyal nod. He grinned and then his gaze fell on me. As usual it made me shiver.
"If I find out that the dragons are coming here because you contacted them, I will kill you!" He snarled at me threateningly.
I tried to seem threatening myself, but it is very hard to do in the presence of my father. "Why would I summon them and loose my chance to grow stronger?" I admitted boldly.
My father eyed me, but then a sound from above drew our attention away. It was the small search party of dragons.
My heart stopped when I saw that Cand himself was in the lead. He had something on his back, but he was too far to make out what it was. The other three dragons I did not really recognize.
I was surprised that none of the unicorns in the valley started to sound an alarm. I then realized that my father most likely had a telepathic connection to them. They knew the dragons could not see us.
And it appeared that they truely could not, for they looped around in the sky a few times. They were looking all about below them as if desperate to see some sign of life, of me. My heart raced as I thought about what Cand must think of me now.
Gaelon started to laugh as the dragons looked around blindly. I think he was pleased with himself for still being able to trick them. Tinnu was smiling too, her tail flashing back and forth behind her.
"Well it seems the King himself is looking for you, Ruinar. You must feel so honored." Gaelon said with a laugh. It was hard to tell, but it seemed like he was thinking up some sort of spell to throw at them.
I gulped and let a snarl escape me. "Well, he should just go home to his true heir. I am nothing to him now," I said in anger.
All of us watched the dragons loop around a few more times and then they left back the direction that they had come from.
Gaelon still did not release his spell until they were far out of sight. I was shocked to see fatigue sweep over his body as he did.
"Wow, it worked. That really was amazing." Tinnu said in awe. I nodded in agreement with her.
Gaelon gave us both a sly but tired smile. "Do not ever forget that magic involves equal exchange. As much energy as you want your spell to have, you must also draw from somewhere. This time I should have first used an energy drawing spell so it would not use up all my own power... Our lesson will have to continue later."
