Hello Diary,
When I started to regain consciousness I realized that I was still lying on the cool stone floor of the courtyard. I was not sure how long I had been lying there. The sounds and roars of fighting dragons echoed all around me. I needed to move, get back inside the Palace.I tried to stand up and was quickly reminded of all my broken bones with a wave of pain. I grimaced and collapsed again, gasping. At least I did not pass out that time. I took some deep breaths and tried to get my bearings. If I was stuck I should at least be aware of what is coming at me.
I noticed a horrible scene. Dragons were fighting other dragons. My heart sank inside me. What was happening to my kingdom? The Dragons of Angoleth are supposed to be guardians and protectors. My father's evil had turned everything upside down.
At first I was not able to locate Gaelon but I suddenly heard his bellowing roar of pain. I turned my head, wincing from the pain in my back and neck, to spot him near the Palace steps.
The huge black dragon had gotten the higher ground. Dark black blood was dripping all around him from several wounds all over his large. The most blood came from a deep cut down the side of his neck.
There was so much blood everywhere, most of it was the creepy dark blood of the dragon king but some was also the red blood of others. A nasty bitter smell was heavy on the air and the stagnant stench of death was starting to take hold.
My mentor was standing on the Palace steps. I could see his fatigue as he faced my father, now on his own. He was also wounded and favoring one of his hind legs due to a deep three toed slash on his flank. Between me and them several dragons lied dead on the floor. The others of the rebellion band we're now fighting with the dragons who were too afraid to disobey their king.
Gaelon was staggering and appeared to be weakened significantly yet he still stood over Cand with a menacing grin. I don't think I will ever see a look of fear or compassion on Gaelon's face. Cand snarled and shot a burst of ice toward Gaelon's head. The huge dragon ducked his head and rammed it into Cand's chest as quick as a flash.
Cand went tumbling backwards down the steps. Gaelon laughed to himself for a second and then rushed down to meet his enemy. As Cand attempted to stand up he was pushed back to the ground by the weight of Gaelon on top of him.
"Even without my magic, and your surprise attack, I will still squash this rebellion. No one disobeys the King of Angoleth. It is time you learn your place, Cand!"
All my pain suddenly forgotten, I rushed forward toward them. If only I could get close enough to use a lightning spell.
The pain was excruciating but I pushed through it as I scrambled closer. Neither of the two dragons noticed me. They were focused on one another. Gaelon was snarling, Cand pinned below him helplessly. Gaelon was just too big and strong for him to break free.
"Zarith Valunin!" I screamed, pushing my energy through my right front leg. A bright bolt of green lightning shot out toward my father. It struck him right on his left cheek. Then it split and also struck his chest.
The king roared in pain as the force of the bolt actually sent him bowling backwards. I never imagined I would be able to cause him pain. It felt pretty good.
Cand staggered to his feet and chanced a quick look back at me. A faint smile touched his face but then he turned back to the battle. He could not loose the small advantage my attack had earned him.
The bolt had used up alot of my reserved energy. I suddenly felt the wave of pain return causing me to collapse again. As I lay in agony I watched the king's battle unfold before me.
Cand attacked Gaelon with a sudden fury in his eyes. The blue and golden dragon was so fast I was amazed my father had been able to pin him down in the first place. First he was slashing at Gaelon's face, then his jagged horns were thrust into the huge dragon's side.
Gaelon roared in pain and rage. He spun around slashing this way and that. I realized that Cand had somehow blinded him. Now bleeding even more from the horn wound in his side, the king was wobbling as he stood. The rage and hate had never left his eyes.
Cand backed away to catch his breath and plot another attack. I never got to see the rest of the fight though unfortunately... My vision started to blur.
The last thing I remembered was the pain and agony as someone lifted me off the ground and scurried toward the Palace doors. I briefly saw the glittering of pale green scales before my vision went completely dark.
(Thank you so much again for reading this story. I am having a lot of fun writing it. The picture at the top does not belong to me, I just thought it was cool and looked like Ruinar's lightning bolt.
