"But Maddie I don't know where to even start.", I whine.
"Okay fine, let me give you my conditions. ", Maddie offers and I just nod to her suggestion. "Number one, you have to at least give one guy a chance, not as a boyfriend but at least just go with the flow and see where he takes you. Number 2 , you're only allowed to stop messing with the guy if he asks you for something you're not comfortable with. Number 3, you're allowed to catch feelings." , she says pointing out a finger before each condition. "But the furthest I'm willing to go in terms breaking my bet is kissing the guy nothing more. No catching feelings!", " fine, but promise me you'll let loose a bit. Live a little Tiff.", "yes Maddie, I promise." , I say and pull out my pinky to pinky swear with her. "I can't believe I'm doing this.", I sigh as Maddie makes a turn and gets on the road leading us to the mall.------
We finally make it to the mall. Maddie leads the way. Our first stop is at this expensive boutique I've never stepped foot in. Maddie and I ruffle through the gold priced garments. "Maddie, I don't think I can afford all these clothes.", " You worry too much Tiff. I'm paying. ", I stare at her with both eyes open wide. " don't look at me like that. My dad increased my allowance with a few thousands." I don't find the words to respond.Maddie lived with her father and step mother. It has not always been like this though. Maddie's mother passed away 7 years ago. She died from cancer. Ever since her mother's passing, Maddie has been a bit distant from her father. She now lives with her sister who practically always away on business. Maddie's dad thinks that she's always in need of stuff as she's alone most of the time and so he fills her account with money every three weeks. He is a business man and has tons of companies all over the world. Maddie isn't close to her step mom and so she considers my mom as her own and she even calls her mom. My mom and Maddie's mom were friends since elementary school and we only found out about them being friends when we were nine years old.
"Hello ladies, how may I help you?" the shop assistant asks and immediately removes me from my thoughts.
"Hey, I'm Maddie and this is my best friend Tiffany and she needs a make over", Maddie explains and directs her index finger towards me.
"Okay, so what do you have in mind? ", the assistant who's name is actually Brittany asks." Uhhhmm, I'm just your average tomboy....She's the one directing the whole make over thing....", I half explain and half giggle at same time.
"Ohhh, that's understandable, so Maddie what do have in mind? " , "Something girly, like a dress, shorts, sandals and something with colour. All she ever wears are dull colours like grey, black and white."
"You remind me of my old self ,Tiffany, I also used to be just like that. All I used to wear were jeans and plain shirts. But that all changed after I found my first boyfriend. His name was Jake Miller. He taught how to appreciate life and to value myself. We were both 17. Jake was the best thing that had happened to me in a while. He was the only thing I thought I needed. When I was with him, my life was a continuous wonder. The time I spent with him was so spectacular. I deeply loved him. "
"I've noticed that you keep using the past tense to describe your relationship with Jake. What happened, if I may ask?"
"well Jake and I were just too young to settle down. At that time, I felt like I wasn't ready for commitment, yet i still loved him. So one day he did what he thought was best for me and left, leaving a note saying: ' My dearest Brittany, I love you so much and I just want the best for you. So I'm setting you free. I hope you can find something new out there. Maybe we'll meet again in the future. Have fun. I'll always love you.
Jake.' ""How did you handle the break up? Was it as dreadful as most people describe it to be? ", I pop out my next question
"That was the worst time of my life. I had so much going on in my life. I was still discovering myself. All the break up did was tear me apart. I remember, I had no appetite , everything just tasted bad for me. My whole life was unpleasant. I couldn't hear the birds sing anymore, I was literally just walking through my life for a whole month. After that I accepted it and just focused on myself and on school. I did find other boyfriends at a later stage, but it wasn't the same. There were times when I still missed Jake but I had grown to the idea of never seeing him again. Then five years later, one of ourr friends, Aston calls me and tells me that Jake was getting married and that he would like it if I came to the wedding. Yes, I did go to the wedding. It was bittersweet, but I was happy for him. It was only after his wedding that I had fully moved on. I'll always love Jake Miller but I know that there's someone out there for me too."
"Ahhhhhh that's such a touching story, Brittany. I hope you do find someone who you'll love as much as you loved Jake if not more." I honestly state and the three of us make a quick group hug.
"Thank you girls. I haven't relived that story in a while. Now let's get to business! Do you guys have a budget I need to keep under? "
"Nope, just get as much as you can!" Maddie says with so much enthusiasm.
'Im worried.'
