'She was never afraid of his darkness or the demons who danced in his eyes. He thought no one could ever love him if he revealed what lurks inside.
He always knew he was different, how could anyone understand?
But she was never afraid of his darkness or the beast within the man.'

Freyja laid the dress out for Ingrid that morning, weeks had passed since Sigurds funeral and the heathen army were beginning to settle in the new land they had been given to by King Ecbert.

"You look beautiful Ingrid" Freyja compliments her dear friend as she placed the last flower in her white blonde hair.
"Thank you Freyja you do too" she compliments her handmaidens blue dress. Freyja smiles gratefully at the shieldmaiden.
"Too bad your mother couldn't be here to see you getting married" Freyja tells her.
Ingrid did wish for her mother for her to to see her right now in this beautiful dress she did want her mother to see her getting married. But Ingrid knew deep down Lagertha would never approve of her getting married to Ivar.

"Yeah its too bad. My mother always wanted to see me getting married but she didn't want me to get married too soon, I say if she saw me now she'd probably tell me it's too soon and besides she would never leave me ever marry Ivar."

"You know Ingrid there's no rush" Thorunn says from behind her

"What are you talking about?"

"Marrying Ivar. Don't you think its too sudden, Sigurd is dead, Ragnars dead, Helga is dead, everyone has lost someone Ingrid, even you" Thorunn explains referring to the death of Helga who Ingrid was mostly fond of.
But what Thorunn feared for was the young girls life, she was young and in love. Thorunn didn't want Ingrid making the same mistakes she did.

"I know but a wedding is just something we all need right now, we can't live in the past anymore. I'm sick of living in the past Freyja, too many losses too many lies, its unbearable I know, but we have to carry on somehow.
A wedding may not be the best but I just feel people need cheering up and that's what our people need right now."

"Wise words friend, not many women could do what you could in your position now it's rather brave to do."
Ingrid looked down at the small Thor's hammer that was in her hand, the necklace her mother Lagertha gave to her before Ingrid left Kattegat,
as Thorunn and Freyja brushed her long white blonde hair and fixed her dress.
"Guess I'm my mothers daughter after all then."

Soon someone cleared their throat behind her. Ingrid and the shieldmaidens turned around.
