It's Complicated

My eyes slowly adjust to the bright morning light as I wake up from a deep sleep. I glance to the clock sitting on a small table next to my bed. I lay there for a few more minutes, and push myself off the bed, rubbing my eyes. Today was simply one of those days I just wanted to lay around, but nope I had school. I walk over to my dresser and pull out a white shirt with jewels, and black skinny jeans.

I quickly apply some mascara and put my hair up. I throw on the outfit I grabbed and run down stairs.

My mom wasn't down stairs, so after I made her usual coffee, I ran up stairs and ran to her room at the end of the hall. I knocked and waited patiently, but there was no answer. "Mom?" I say, as I knock a couple more times, wondering why she wasn't up. I check my phone, I couldn't wait any longer. I run down stairs and grab my bag hanging at the end of the steps.

I set the coffee down on the counter and run out the door. I would wait a bit longer, but I couldn't miss the bus. I arrive at the stop, and take a look around. There was a boy who I had every class with, but didn't even know his name. He never really spoke. On my opposite side stood a tall thin girl. She was considered the "nerd" of the grade. I don't know, she didn't seem horrible. She was simply quiet.

Our bus arrives and one by one we walk on. I sit in my usual seat and pull out my phone. No messages from Kayden, well that's strange. A puzzled look crosses my face, why hasn't he texted me? Maybe I'm simply over reacting...but it seems he is getting tired of me.

I place my phone in my bag and try to forget about my worries. I pull out my math book and review for my test I had, which I had not studied for at all. After 20 minutes of studying, the old bus screeches against the concrete, signaling to each of the students we have arrived at hell, also known as school.

I throw my bag on my shoulder and stand up. As I walk off the bus, I begin to walk down when I feel someone push me slightly. I fall onto the ground, and kids simply walk past me, like I was a piece of mold on the pavement.

"You alright?" Says a friendly voice I don't recognize. It was the boy that sits in the back of the class. The one that never talks, well until now.

"Oh yeah, thanks." I say, as he reaches his hand out to help me up. I look into his emerald green eyes and look at his dark chocolate brown hair, he flips it out of his eyes and shows a slight grin. I never really took a chance to admire this guy. "What's your first class?" He asks, beginning to walk into school, signaling for me to follow. "It's math, we have all the same classes." I say laughing, and he looks at me with a stunned look. "Wait we are in the same classes?" He says, and I just laugh some more.

"I have to go to my locker, but I'll see you in class." I say, smiling, and he simply nods and waves, showing a small smile, and heads to class, flipping his hair out of his eyes once again.

'That guy was so sweet' I think to myslef. Wait Taylor, you gotta stop, you're dating Kayden. You know you only feel this way because you think he isn't interested.

I push the thoughts out of my head and keep walking to my locker, and standing there is Megan and Julia. "Oh my gosh Tay, a hot junior has a crush on me." says Julia, smiling with excitement. "You don't know that Julia." Megan says shaking her head. She looks over to me. "She THINKS a junior likes her cuz he smiled at her." Megan explains, and I can't help but laugh. "He does, obviously you haven't been reading anything about guys online." Julia says with an annoyed tone. Megan rolls her eyes and turns her attention to me. "So how's Kayden? Is he ok?" She questions.

As I begin to speak a loud bell interrupts. "Crap, I'm late!" I say, and run off. "Julia let's go." Megan says. "Tell us later!" Megan shouts over to me, and I nod and quickly run to class. I get to the door and run my hands through my curls before I step in. I open the door to a room full of quiet. I glance over to my desk and begin to walk over. Maybe I won't be noticed.

"Taylor, thanks for joining us. Do you have a reason to be late?" She questions. I look down, and take a look at her again. I had no reason, what do I say? I can't say I was talking about my boyfriend with my friends. "No, I don't. I'm sorry, I lost track of time." I say, and she gives me a death look. "Ok, sit down." She says sternly. I quickly walk to my seat and pull out my books.

I turn around to see the boy who I spoke to earlier, and find him laughing to himself. We make eye contact, and he smirks. I stick my tongue out at him, and he looks down, laughing again.

I turn my attention back to the old teacher and do my work. After a dreadful hour, I hear a loud ring. Finally class is over. I throw my book bag on my shoulders and look at my phone, 5 new messages from Kayden. As I am about to open them, I feel a grasp on my shoulder. It's the boy once again.

"Hey Taylor." He says, showing a full smile. "Hey... wait what's your name?" I say blushing, and I hear a laugh. "Brandon." He says, and I smile. "Nice name." I say, and he wraps his arm around my neck, and I hear my phone beep, Kayden again. I can't do this, I'm dating Kayden, not Brandon. We walk out into the hall, and I pull away from Brandon, suddenly feeling disappointed I left his warmth in the first place. I smile and look up at him. My phone beeps once again, and I open the messages.

7 new messages from Kayden<3

Kayden: I am out of the hospital, coming to see you!

Kayden: I'm sorry I haven't texted lately.

Kayden: I can't wait to see you gorgeous<3

Kayden: Walking in.

Kayden: Where are you?

Kayden: Hello?

Kayden: Wait I think I know where you are.

I turn around, and find Kayden staring at me and Brandon. His face fills with sadness and anger, as he storms down the hall. I run away from Brandon, "Kayden wait!" I shout. "I came to surprise you and find you with another guy? wow." He shouts, eyes filling with tears. "No! I wasn't cheating, Kayden I love you." I say, trying to stay calm. He shoots me a cold look and runs down the hall, vanishing within a few seconds. I run into the bathroom, lock myself in a stall, and just sit down and cry.
