1.102" I Can't"

Next day.Morning. 

I walked to the Lockwood mansion. Caroline was preparing everything for the Miss Mystic falls Peagent. Guess who she wants to see there? yeah, me.

I saw Caroline coming my way with a killer look. 

I was about to open my mouth but she cut me off. 

Caroline "Look, I'm your best friend and I would never pick sides, but are you sure that this is what you want? Because Stefan is your soul mate."

I raised my eyebrows.

Caroline sighed " Sorry. Picking sides."

Me "how is he? Have you talking to him?"

Caroline " he's heartbroken. He didn't admit it but his voice gave it away"

I sighed not feeling better than he does.

Me "Well, what was I supposed to do? tell him the truth?"

Caroline yelled irritated "obviously yeah!"

People who were passing by gave us a look. 

Me "I'm confused and scared! I need to figure out what i'm going to do next."

Caroline "What did you even tell him?"

I looked down.

Caroline "Adelaide, what did you do?"

Me "I told him that I slept with Elijah "

Her jaw dropped, she started to slap my arm and yelled " have you lost your goddamn mind, woman?!!"

Suddenly i saw Nik standing behind her. 

Me "i could ask you the same thing, woman"

She shot me a confused look. 

I nodded at Nik and she turned around. 

She sighed annoyed. 

Nik asked amused  "How did i know i would find you here?"

Caroline " Go away. I'm busy."

Nik " I was wondering what time I should pick you up tomorrow."

I smirked. 

Caroline fake smiled  "How about a quarter to never?"

Nik " I was promised a date in return for one of my hybrids."

Caroline nodded "Yes, a date. Like to a movie where we don't have to talk and I can put at least three seats between us."

Nik "Well, surely the reigning Miss Mystic Falls won't be hosting the party alone."

Caroline's eyes widened. 

Nik "And I assume you're not taking Tyler. Not after his indiscretions with his lady werewolf friend."

Nik looked at her with puppy dog eyes. 

Caroline breathed out " Fine. If you insist on coming, meet me here. Two p.m. Black tie optional. And I already have a dress, so don't even think of getting me so much as a corsage, you understand?"

Klaus looked down submissively and nodded.

Caroline grabbed my hand and walked inside with me. 

She walked into Carol's office and shoved me into the sofa. 

Caroline "now. Tell me"

I took a deep breath "I love Stefan more than anything."

Caroline asked confused "Then why did you tell him you had sex with Elijah ? Why end things?"

I sighed "Well, it's complicated"

Caroline " That's bullshit! Adelaide"

Me "It's the truth"

Caroline warned "Adelaide"

I breathed out "Fine! you wanna know what happened? I dreamed about Elijah! The guy i fell in love with while i was human! that's what happened!"

Caroline "You're afraid that if Klaus really finds a way to turn you back to human that ...."

Me "... i might fall in love with Elijah again"

Caroline sighed and sat down next to me. 

Me "i love Stefan. I love him so much. I was fighting to be with him so hard...don't ever think that i would break up with him over something as little as that cure"

Caroline "i'm sorry"

Me "Stefan can never know about this. Elena got between him and Damon and she chose Stefan. I don't want to choose too."

Caroline "and who would you choose?"

Me "Vampire me or human me?"

Caroline "both"

I drove a hand through my hair "that's the thing i'm scared off. I don't know"

Caroline "you broke his heart to protect him"

I nodded "by breaking mine in process"

She sighed and hugged me.
