Are you ready, kids, to cry for Odasaku?
~~~
"Good morning, everyone~!" You exclaimed as you walked into the ADA office, ready for the new working day, which definitely held lots of fun and curious things in itself
Even though, it was just 9 am in the morning, everyone were already busy: Atsushi was talking to Kenji, Ranpo was eating, Naomi and Tanizaki were having their lovey-dovey moment, which definitely wasn't meant for public eyes, Yosano was in her office, Kunikida was looking through some papers and Dazai was annoying him. Busy, indeed.
However, there actually was one person, who was truly busy, not "busy" like others and you walked straight to him.
Odasaku was sitting at his desk, typing something on his computer and even though, he was working, a soft happy smile was still present on his face. This what you loved him for. Odasaku was one of the deepest people you knew, yet his deepness didn't consume him and turned into depression, but instead helped him achieve his dreams and be happy. You loved him for how much....life he held inside.
Noticing you, his smile grew wider
"Good morning, my love." He told you, lifting his head to look at your pretty face
You sat in your chair, next to him, taking out every necessary for working thing.
"You're rather early today~" You pointed out, smiling cockily
"Well, it's because I'll have to leave earlier as well." He explained "Yesterday, Kunikida said, that if I come earlier today, I can leave earlier."
"Leave earlier, than usual? Why?" You asked
"I have a meeting with a publisher today." Odasaku answered "Remember, my previous book Six White Venus*? The publisher contacted me again and said, that since that book had a big success, he would like to work with me again and publish another book of mine."
Your eyes sparkled with happiness after hearing such news and you couldn't help, but almost jump on your beloved writer, wrapping your arms around his neck in a tight hug
"Odasaku, that's wonderful!!" You exclaimed "I'm so happy, that your works have such success!"
"Little by little and Odasaku will leave us to become a full-time writer~" Dazai joked, coming closer to both you
Oda hugged you back, before kissing your forehead and turning to Dazai
"I won't leave ADA." He chuckled "I like working here. Helping people is a great thing to do, that makes me happy. Plus, all my friends and my dear (Y/N) is here. Why would I leave it, huh?"
"But Odasaku, it won't be a bad thing if you do it~" You agreed with Dazai "After all, it's for the sake of your dream of becoming a writer~"
"See~? (Y/N)-chan agrees~" Dazai said
"Why don't we talk about you, Dazai?" Odasaku changed the theme of the conversation "You've written some stories too, which are really impressing. Why don't you publish them too?"
Dazai, frowned at the sudden choice of the theme
"Nah, it's too complicated~" He brushed it off
You chuckled at both of them because of their amusing talks. Odasaku knew Dazai the best and he knew perfectly what to do if Dazai's teasing gets a little too long.
"By the way, what work are you going to publish?" You asked Odasaku
"Hm..." He paused to think "I'm thinking about The State of the Times*"
You hugged him tighter, remembering the story, he was speaking about. That one story, that actually made you slightly scared because in it, he described the years of his work in the Mafia
"Hey, (Y/N)?" Odasaku called you, brushing your hair gently "You seem to be scared."
"I'm not." You replied "Just worried."
"Because of that work, again?" Dazai asked
You simply nodded without answering
That work was scary not only for you, but also for some of those few people, who Oda let read it. In that work of his, he described all the horrible things, that happened with him in the Mafia, in details, but he didn't actually mention, that they happened with him, not with the fictional character. You and Dazai were the only ones, who knew this little secret
You hugged Odasaku even tighter, remembering one scene from that book. The one, where he describes how he was fighting with the leader of another criminal organization and how he was shot and there again, you were thanking God and Dazai for coming on time and saving him. Of course, after such a fight, Odasaku was brought to a hospital and stayed there for quite a long time, but the most important was, that he survived.
You were thanking the whole universe, that kept him safe and sound so that he was able to meet you and fall in love with you. You knew, that Dazai was thanking the world in that very moment as well, because Odasaku was his closest friend, who helped him get out of the grip of depression and forget about suicide so that he was now able to enjoy life to the fullest. Both of you were simply thankful for this man in your lives.
A friend or a lover, he made your life happier and he was rewarded for it by the life itself.
"My love," He started, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear "What happened is in the past stayed in the past. I'm here alive and I'll live happily ever after with you and we both will be even happier, than we are now. That horrible day, luckily, had a good ending. I didn't die, was saved, Dazai escaped the Mafia with me and is full of life now, I forgot my past and I met you and fell for you at the first sight. Let's be happier, alright?"
Don't forget to vote or comment if you liked the chapter :3
I swear, I tried to keep it fluffy, but I couldn't resist adding a little bit of angst
*Six White Venus (1946) and The State of the Times (1946) are real books, written by Oda Sakunoske. The State of the Times actually describes the period the first months of the occupation period following Japan's surrender at the end of World War II, but as you noticed, I changed it a little
And yes, I do lots of researches for my stories :)
