Today was one of the most important days for you. March 1st. The birthday of your crush, a well-known mafioso, Akutagawa Ryunoske, and also the day, when you decided, that you will finally confess to him.

Yes, Akutagawa could seem rather cold or rude (at least, these were the first traits, that people said to describe him) but you were one of the few lucky people, who got to see his soft side.

You have been working with him for about 6 months already and you were assigned as his partner, instead of Higuchi, who instead became Tachihara's partner, regardless of her protests. In this period, you have noticed how softer he was towards you. If he was training you, he wasn't yelling or cursing, if you fell, he always offered you his hand, if you cried, he never called you weak or anything like that.

The truth was, that he appreciated you like wine-collectors appreciate a very old bottle of wine.

But now, it was time for you to cross the line, that allowed you to be called "friends", to finally get that burden off your shoulders.

You were waiting in his office for him to arrive to work with a homemade cake for him with "Happy Birthday!" written on top of it. Sadly, you were the only one in the office since Higuchi wasn't in the city in the moment and Chuuya was sent on a mission so you were the only one left.

Even though, you were glad, that you'll get to confess to him, while being on your own with him, but you were still slightly disappointed, that he won't have a grand party, that he deserved.

Suddenly, the door opened and a familiar figure show up in the doorway and immediately, you smiled happily and exclaimed happily as you shot a firecracker

"Happy birthday~!!"

Atukagawa dropped his jaw slightly as he was staring at you with wide eyes and a completely stunned look. He didn't say anything and instead, he stayed silent as he was simply looking at you and confetti on the floor.

You were starting to get nervous, that he didn't like your little idea and hurried to show him the cake, that you had put on his desk.

"Here~!" You said, coming closer to him with the cake in your hands with the same wide smile on your face "I've baked it for you~ Hope, you'll like it~"

Slowly, Akutagawa started to come back to his senses and he even managed to reply

"(Y/N)..." He started, still being slightly shocked "Y'know, you surprised me a lot with it."

"Yeah, I noticed~" You chuckled

"I just didn't expect, that someone would actually remember about my birthday. Even I forgot about it." He explained

Now. This was the right moment

"Akutagawa, you see..." You started, blushing slightly "You've always been...special to me. Ever since we were assigned as partners, I've always been drawn to you, but as the time went by, I realized, that it's no longer just a fleeting crush, it's a real love. I'm in love with you, Akutagawa."

You lowered your eyes, not being able to look him in the eyes since you were 50% sure, that you're just going to get a refusal, but suddenly, you felt a hand, patting your head.

"Silly." He said quietly "Are you afraid, that I was going to say, that I don't love you?"

Shocked, you raised your head to look at him

"W-What did you just say?!!"
