CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX
LOUISE
Pagmulat ko ng mata ko, wala si Kabe sa tabi ko. Baka umalis na siya. Baka nagsawa na siya sakin. Baka narealize nyang I’m not worth it.
Nagsimula nanamang sumikip yung dibdib ko at maluha yung mga mata ko.
God, what did I do to deserve this.
Tiningnan ko yung engagement ring ko sa bedside table ko.
As much as I want to get mad at Red for cheating on me, I can’t because technically, I cheated on him too.
I guess I’m mad at him because he followed his heart without thinking about me, samantalang I was living a lie for him.
Binuksan ko yung phone ko, wala man lang text sa kanya.
‘We’re over’I texted him.
I didn’t wait for his reply. Pinatay ko na agad yung phone ko.
Naghilamos muna ko bago gumawa ng breakfast. I looked at myself.
This is not the Louise na pumunta sa States almost five years ago.
This is not the Louise who chased her dreams.
This is not the Louise that Kabe loved.
This is not me.
I tied my hair and pep talked myself.
“You won’t bring back the old Louise, but you will not be the new Louise as well. Magiging hybrid ka nung dalawa. Kaya mo toh Louise. Kaya mo toh” sabi ko sa sarili ko.
With or without Kabe or Red, kaya ko toh.
Lumabas na ko ng pintuan ng kwarto ko.
Pagbukas ko sakto namang pakatok na si Kabe.
He stayed, or rather, he came back.
For real.
“Kabe what are you... Oh my god what happened to you?” tapos nakita ko yung kamao nya, namumula at duguan.
“Good morning to you too beautiful. May dala kong breakfast” sabi nya sakin.
“Kabe anong nangyari sayo?” tanong ko ulit.
Bumuntong hininga siya’t niyakap ako.
“I hope you don’t get mad pero sinuntok ko yung ex mo. I punched him like there’s no tomorrow” sabi nya sakin.
Napayakap ako sa kanya ng mas mahigpit. How could I have thought to let this man go?
“I’m not mad. Thank you for everything Kabe. Hindi ko alam kung anong ginawa ko to deserve you” bulong ko sa kanya.
Humiwalay siya ng yakap sakin.
“You came into my life and taught me the beauty of falling inlove. Yun ang ginawa mo to deserve me” he smiled sweetly.
Then he caressed my cheeks and placed his lips on mine.
I’m not going to let this man go. Not now, not ever, not again.
