"Daddy, daddy!" Lydia cried in the middle of the night.
It had to be, around three in the morning?
Caleb, groaning in his sleep. He rolled over, tired blue eyes met frightened tea green ones.
"What is it, Lydia?" He asked in a soft voice, in hopes of not waking up his wife.
Lydia had tears in her eyes.
"I-I had a nightmare." She cried, wiping her eyes.
"MOMMY!!" Wailed Lyla in the next room.
Emma groaned.
"Well, there goes the neighborhood." Caleb sighed. The two adults, escaped the sweet comforts of their bed, to calm down their crying children.
Lydia was in the arms of Caleb, who trailed behind Emma.
The tired mom, entered the twins room, flicking the light on.
Lyla was trembling at the edge of the bed, hiding her face from everyone.Emma got down on her knees, running her fingers through her daughters hair.
"Lyla, sweetie, what is it? Why are you crying?" She asked.
Lyla's brows furrowed.
"I woke up, and was alone. Lydia left me." She cried.
Caleb closed his eyes, then walked over to his other child and wife.
"Lydia had a nightmare, you know she wouldn't leave you, unless it was serious." He explained.Lyla wiped her eyes, before nodding.
Caleb sat Lydia next to Lyla, their parents looking at the two of them.
"You're six years old, its normal to have nightmares and be scared of being alone. But, that's also why you have each other. You two are sisters, if one of you is scared, get in the bed with the other. It's okay to lean on each other." He told them.Lyla and Lydia exchanged expressions, then looked at their parents.
"We understand." They said in unison.Emma and Caleb both smiled with relief, it was good how fast they understood something so simple.
It would make things easier on them.
Or so they thought."Lyla!? What are you doing on the counter?!" Emma cried out the next day.
Lyla jumped in surprise, before turning to her mom with teary eyes.
"S-Sorry mommy! But daddy said for me and Lydia to lean on each other! Lydia wanted a cookie! But now I can't get down." She cried.Emma ran over to her stuck child, before getting her off of the counter.
Lyla held her arms behind her back, looking away with a guilty expression.
Fixing to scold her, Emma jumped at the sound of Lydia crying out in pain."Lydia!?" Emma left Lyla's side, and immediately up the stairs.
She ran into the study, to find Lydia holding her knee, tears streaming down the six year olds cheeks.
"M-Mommy." Lydia cried.
Emma raced over to her, looking at the broke skin and blood oozing down her leg."What were you doing?" Emma hissed, doctoring Lydias leg in the bathroom.
Lydia whimpered.
"I wanted to look at the books.. but after, I tripped and it hurt really bad." She cried.
Emma frowned deeply, a headache forming."Mommy!" Lyla cried from downstairs.
"Mommy!" Lydia cried.
"Mommy, Lydia hit me!" Lyla cried.
"No I didn't mommy! It was Lyla!" Lydia screamed.Emma was exhausted, her head was pounding, she couldn't keep this up.
Caleb was still at work, and he wouldnt be home til late.
She just needed sleep, only an hour or two.
But then, who would watch her angels?Emma sat at the kitchen table, she had managed to get them both to go down for a nap.
There was no telling, how long it would last.
Her head, rested in her hands as she closed her eyes.
It was quiet, she was at peace, but for how long?Just one sound, would wake up Lydia and then she would start screaming for food. Of course, that would wake up Lyla, who would start crying from the noise.
Emma didnt dare, to move.
She was too exhausted, if she moved, it would be a mistake.
This was an every day thing, and she wasn't sure how much more she could take.
It was her fault, for not putting them in kindergarten.
She begged Caleb to keep them out, but for what cost?
To exhaust her?She jumped, at the sound of the phone ring.
Her tired, tea green eyes widening.
She didn't want the girls to wake up, stumbling and tripping to get to the phone on the wall, she answered it as quickly as she could. Before she said anything, she listened, for any kind of sound upstairs.
Nothing.
Her heart pounded, as her chest tightened.
"Hello?" She whispered into the phone.
{"HELLO CAN I INTEREST YOU IN SOME CAR INSURANCE?"} The voice boomed in her ear.Her stomach dropped, at how easily the phone fell from her hand.
Her heartbeats only grew louder, watching the phone slowly fall.
Crashing onto the wood floor.
Echoing throughout the house.Emma's eyes squeezed shut, holding her breath.
And then, there it was.
"MOMMY!!" Lydia screamed.
Followed, by Lyla crying as loud as possible.
Emma let out a panicked cry, falling to her knees.
Her hands aggressively grabbing her hair.
"Just.. stop, please God make it stop." She cried shaking her head as she trembled.Thirty minutes later, she was putting her two girls in their chairs.
Lydia screaming for food, Lyla crying for her sister to stop screaming.
Emma put two bowls of cereal on their trays. She walked over to the sink, looking at the empty yellow bottle of pills she had downed.
Her head felt heavy, her body was numb and things were getting blurry.
She just wanted silence.
For the noises to stop.
Her body was aching. She looked over to her girls, they were both playing in their food.
She was in no shape to scold them, in thirty minutes, their dad would be home.
In thirty minutes, she could sleep.
In thirty minutes, they would be his problem.
In thirty minutes, nothing will matter.
Not until they got woke up, in the middle of the night. It was hard to swallow, but at this point.
Emma didn't care, she just wanted to sleep.
She looked to the door, watching the door knob slowly turn.
"Mommy!" Lyla cried.
Emma looked to her child, before she felt herself floating frontwards then down.
Everything was dark.
Everything was quiet.
Except for the sound, of two crying kids. What? You thought this would be sunshine and lollipops? Lol no, there's a lot more coming.
I do apologize for future triggers.
The story will end up cute and sweet.
