I pull the letter out of the metal box. I run back into the house before the cold winter air devours me and shut the door.
The letter has Thomas's name on it. I climb up to his office and knock on the door.
"Come in," I hear him sigh. He must be tired. I see his face lighten when he sees it's me, and I smile.
"A letter has arrived from a certain someone," I say. He looks at me in disbelief.
"You're kidding," he says, and I shake my head. I hand him the letter and he quickly opens it.
"Dear Mr. Jefferson,
After a fierce race, the new president John Adams has been elected. You are to move into the White House for your duties as Vice President. We look forward to seeing you.
Sincerely,
President John Adams"
He looks at me. "start packing!" I jump up and down in excitement. He laughs and stands up. I leap into his arms. "Thomas, that's amazing!" He's hugging me now, and when I look up at him he's smiling and there are tears forming in his bright eyes. "Do not cry, because then I will cry, then we'll both be crying, and then we can't pack!" I tell him, and nods.

"Welcome to the White House, Miss Hamilton," the President greets me. I take his arm as he leads me to the rooms that Thomas and I have been given. "Thank you, Mr President, you have been so kind to us," he smiles. "No need, Senator, it's quite amazing, an honor really. Having the first woman senator in my house is quite a honor."
I smile and thank him. He leaves me at Thomas's office, which conjoins on to my office. Down the hallway a little ways is where our master bedroom is, along with a washroom. I walk into Thomas's office.
"Hello love," he greets me and I sigh. "Long day?" He asks me, standing up to walk over to me. I nod. "Well, how about we go lay down?" He asks me and I smile. "Your amazing," I tell him. He laughs.
We walk into the great master bedroom. The fine oak carved bed sits in the middle with two night tables around it. There is a big double glass door that leads onto the patio.
"Thomas, I think I'm going to take a bath," I tell him and he nods, pulling a book off of a shelf. "Whatever you want, love," he tells me.
I sprinkle some rose petals that Eliza gave me into the warm water, and pull my hair up so it does not get wet. I sink with a sigh into the bathtub.
Today was a long day. After moving all of our things into our rooms, I had an important discussion with the senator for New York. We had both agreed that slavery was wrong, but had different methods of how to get rid of it. While I wanted to remain somewhat peaceful and slowly remove slaves from the plantations, this Senator was keen on starting a full on war. A long day indeed.
However, it is always worth it to see Thomas's face beam when I walk in the room. I know that he is proud of me and loves me. And the fact that I am going to be forever with him in just under a year means that I am even more grateful for him.
For now I'll just relax and take it easy.
I'll Take it one day at a time.
